I may have the chance to play with a bluegrass band in the near future. what position would lay out the best. I am most comfortable in first and second but open to hear what positions other people use. Thanks.

Now see, this is great info or me. I assumed that country/bluegrass was played in first and that blues was played in second. I know you can play some blues in first. Which brings up the question- How do you decide or when do you play first vs. second?

Old time country used to be only played in first but since Charlie McCoy, that has no longer been the case. Also the country tuning works for obvious reasons in 2nd. What is the right choice?? Depends on the tune and what's needed. Sometimes using circular/spiral tuning may be the right choice.
BTW, in Yahoo Groups, there is a bluegrass harp forum worth checking out. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

there are times when im playing a song in second and another harp player is playing in first. im most comfortable playing in second and i think it generally sounds better.so alot depends on your style.id like some more variety so ill definitely look into 12th position.
