If you sand it first then seal it a couple times. You shouldn't have to sand all the sealant away! Get it good and flat first.
Not every one says there isn't a difference. Just the people that like to be heard! Some people don't need to argue over what they know is true! Let your ears be your guide my son.

"You know, this reminds me of my Acoustic Guitar quest that I engaged in a couple years ago. For the most part I've played electric guitar and not much else until a couple years ago when I just wanted to make things simple. I started looking for an acoustic that had "that" sound that I was looking for. Wasn't really sure what "that" sound was but I knew that I'd know it when I heard it. I went thru about 6 or 7 Spruce top guitars, all makes and models and never could find one that was quite right."

OMG you're like this with guitars ,too? ;-)

I actually I'm just the opposite Frank, regarding harp, early on I did a little bit of research to separate the toy level from the serious instrument level. Then I read about the swelling problems with wooden combs and figured I'd have enough on my hands trying to learn the instrument without worrying about that. Narrowed the choice down to Special 20s and Lee Oskar, tried 'em both... settled on the Special 20 and that's all I play. and i'm happy with it.

Regarding guitar I've got a Stratocaster and an Epiphone acoustic.

I spend all my time at this point trying to learn how to play them and the harps.

I figure most of my probs. at this point is with my technique (or more accurately - lack thererof). I figure if I actually get better there will be plenty of time to fool around with the gear.

Not right or wrong...just MY approach.

"that's why there's so many different guitars, harps, ect. on the market. Not everyone wants the same sound from their instruments so you've got a lot to pick from"

Right on, Frank! There's so many kinds of things. There surely is one of all the makes that fits your style, your taste better than the others. If you don't bother to search, you are less probably to find.

Did you try some 1947 (?) Vintage Hering. It has extra thick reed plates. I have one in LD and it sounds pretty good.

Frank, I have never had a problem with the combs on a Blues Harp swelling.
