Just picked up my new Eb Special 20 today for £20 - UK price and very nice it is too OOTB but will have to tinker with it a little bit to adjust it to my liking
I got it, cos it was mentioned on another thread as a useful harp key to have, especially for horn replated pieces. I would like to try either mirroring or directly playing a horn solo on harp. I've been playing around with mirroring the sax work on John Mayalls' Death of JB Lenoir and am interested in suggestions from forum members of songs you know that fit the Eb key well (particularly horn related). I play a disproportionate (caw that's difficult to say after a couple of beers) amount of stuff in second position but I am also up for a challenge in other postions. Ta

@Zack - O yesss! That's the sort of thing!
@strawoodclaw I get them from Bonners who are based in Eastbourne, so no postage. I get a good discount as well because over the years I think I could've bought the store for the money I've spent!!!
Their website price is £22.99 but there might be postage on top of that which of course bumps up the price a bit. You could try them though.

Great, great harp key! I play lots of swing and jazz w/ that key. T-Bone Walker (Tell Me What's the Reason) , Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson (Kidney Stew), Louis Jordan, etc.
Don't think harp, think Lester Young or another horn player. Learn to play those horn lines like "1 o'clock jump" "Caledonia" and other horn parts.
Driftin is a great blues song, but you can play that in any key. I guess my point is play it like a horn. As you said, it's a horn key baby.

For working with horns, i personally prefer a Low Eb, which easily falls into a more sax like feel than the standard one does. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Gussow does a series of lessons on Ray Charles' "Hallelujah I Love Her So" but it takes him a bit to get settled on e-flat. Also he does two lessons on Houston Person's "Goodness" from THE BLUES TENOR SAX album using e-flat.

Flip, Flop & Fly and also Jump, Jive & Wail (but this one modulates 1/2 step so you need Eb and E harps). Flip Flop known well as covered by The Blues Brothers (Big Joe Turner song) and Jump Jive by Brian Seltzer Orchestra.
Enjoy the swingin grooves!

I know Butterfield plays 'The thrill is gone' on a D harp. At least on the live performance on Youtube.

BB king does "The Thrill is Gone" in B minor. I use a G harp in 5th position to play that tune.
I think "Why Get Up?" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds is in Bb.
EDIT: You know, now that I think about it, D harp in 4th position=B minor.

"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" by Cannonball Adderley (written by Joe Zawinul) is in Bb (playable on an Eb harp in second position).
"Equinox" by John Coletrane is a a minor key blues in C natural minor that lays out perfectly well on an Eb harp in fourth position.
