I suspect you're referring to the fact that many of my first 50 lessons on YouTube, more than three years ago, featured a Bb harp. Is that right? Because apart from that, there's no particular evidence that Bb is my favorite harp. The three Satan and Adam albums, for example, only have a couple of tunes on a Bb.
I used a Bb in the early YouTube lessons for two reasons: first, I happened at the time to have a fantastic off-the-shelf Marine Band in Bb, one that made me feel like playing and sharing. Second, since my YT lessons weren't oriented towards beginners, I wanted to put a block in their way. Any intermediate player, I figured, would have a Bb harp. So why not use that? Those two reasons are why I used a Bb harp back then.
But these days, Bb isn't particularly a favorite. It's a good harp, though, for testing out mics and amps, and Greg Heumann confirmed this hunch of mine. It's low enough to test the amps bass response, but the upper octave is high enough to test that element of an amp, too.
I played an a harp an awful lot of the time with Satan & Adam, so it's nice to use other harps. I like 'em all.

This remark is only semi off-topic, but don't most guitarists carry a capo with them? If so, that would put the whole key issue neither here nor there. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick

how you figure? do most of the guitarists you play with say "let's play it in a key easy for the harp guy" ....yeh right.
most are more prone to say...."what do you mean you don't have the right harp...just lay out"...or go home"...learn to play a real instrument"...buy a bass"...just hummmmm along"!

you know ive played around with guitar for years and i ve never had a cappo,I should but i never have,Ive worked on a lot of barr chords minor and 7th's and just trying to get the layout of the neck theses last few years , most of my playing has been with basic acoustic chords,Its my understanding though and i could be wrong but you can get away from using a cappo if you us the neck well(Barr Chords) and can tranpose ,but after all these years im still trying to firgure it out.So i guess what im asking is whats the use of a cappo it was to my understanding to make basic chords the same for different keys a easy way out of learning them like you should?

clyde,
You're being rude and facetious. Please don't, because for 1) it's not really necessary, and 2) I'm not a complete musical nitwit.
I was just thinking about some of my guitar friends over the years, that's all.
On re-reading your post, I can't actually say that anyone's ever been that ignorant towards me at a jam.
Perhaps folks behave differently where you are.
EDIT:
Hobo,
"So i guess what im asking is whats the use of a cappo it was to my understanding to make basic chords the same for different keys a easy way out of learning them like you should?"
I'm no great guitar player, but I thought capos were for transposing open fingering - is the the right term? - so that you could transpose claw hammer and the like. Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice springs to mind, capo on fourth fret, me thinks. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick

@HarmonicMick--you are right about capos--a piece played in 1st position C, for example, can be easily transposed up the neck--but it will totally lose any character it had in 1st position--sometimes that is cool and it turns out well--sometimes it just slam dunks the whole feel of the tune.
With fingerpicked styles, that rely heavily on open strings, a capo is needed to change the key and still keep the sound.
Also--I think some songs just sound better capoed up to about the 7th fret.
Thinking that a capo is a beginner device or a cop out on learning the chords is just plain dumb--Segovia used a capo, for Chrissake--and Clapton--and Son House--I've seen SRV and his brother use them. . . ----------
