The Hall of Fame's 2011 ballot, which was announced this morning, the list includes the Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Donovan, Tom Waits, LL Cool J, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis.

Good to see see Dr. John and J.Geils on the list. For the 11th year in a row KISS is omitted. They were a force. Hard to believe bands like Rush and Cheap Trick are never nominated.

I guess since I'm cool with Little Walter being in I should be cool with Donna Summer or LL Cool J...NOT!

They need tp change the name to the Pop Music Hall of Fame.

KISS is THE band that started it all for me at age 14. I wanted Gene's Dragon Boots and ended up getting a Les Paul guitar made by Electra for my 16th B-Day that looked just like the one Ace played. They were my first "Super Band", I've had others since then but KISS "Destroyer" kicks butt same as it did back in the day.
I know that Dimebag Darrell(RIP) was also a Huge KISS fan. Lots of guys got into Rock n' Roll because of them. It's too bad that the RnRHOF just won't do what's right and put em' on the ballot.

I agree Frank. You would think they would be a lock to get in the first year eligible.

I am glad to see Alice Cooper, the Father of Shock Rock, on the ballot. Also, it's good to see Neil Diamond there too. He's probably written/Co-written more hits then we even know about. Very talented guy even though it's not really my style of music.

The Rock and Roll HOF is a joke...I'm talking about who's in and who's not.....not the actual Museum. There's no way you can convince me that some of the inductees would or should be considered part of Rock and Roll. I totally agree with harpdude regarding a change in the title. Pop Music Hall of Fame, People Who Sold A Lot of Records Hall of Fame...but DEFINITELY NOT...Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Regarding the actual museum, I went there last year on my way through to another destination. Spent a couple of days in Cleveland including the better part of one day at the R and R HOF. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

They were featuring Bruce Springsteen on the top floor (which they change every so often) and being a Springsteen fan I ate it up. Among other things, audio of his demo tapes that were sent to the record execs, his Fender Telecaster/Squire that appeared on the cover of Born to Run and some handwritten lyrics to songs from Born to Run on a coffee stained notebook. Cool stuff.

Plenty of great exhibits. They had a film at the entrance that purported to trace the beginnings of rock and roll back to the blues that was poorly done. Could have been much longer and more detailed, but I guess they didn't want to rope people in for a long time before they got a chance to walk around.

Heard a nice little blues band at a place called Fatfish Blue in downtown cleveland that night. I'm sure a local will now weigh in and tell me I was at a tourist trap, but hey, i enjoyed it.

If you're in cleveland and love Rock and Roll, I recommend going.

Glad to see the Beastie Boys in there. "Paul's Boutique" and "Check Your Head" are two of the best and most influential hip hop albums of all time. Also think that Tom Waits is the best lyricist of his time.

SRV ISN'T IN, wow, I'd have figured he'd be a shoe in to make the Hall of Fame. Clapton is in, right? He better be or there's just no justice in the RnRHOF.

Stevie Ray just became eligible recently, so it's not like it's been a hundred years like KISS. I have seen them three times and they are just AWESOME. I am quite sure they made the list last year but did not make the final nomination. And, if it WAS the People Who Sold a..albums hall of fame, KISS would have ruled it since the beginning.

Donovan??? Yeah, I'm old enough to like the old folkies--but isn't this for Rock and Roll? How about Arlo Guthrie? Peter, Paul & Mary? Joan Baez? It's actually a little hard to think of a lesser star than Donovan in that genre.

Uh..Donovan deserves it before Arlo or Peter, Paul, and Mary. He wrote some incredible songs and was just never looked at fairly.

I guess longevity and record sales are important...I mean Madonna is in. I guess that prevents legendary bands like Canned Heat from getting in. Their stuff is timeless.

If Steveie Ray is eligble to be on the ballot he should be on it.

Good to see that Wolf, Muddy , Etta, and Mr. Johnson are in.

JMHO but if it wasn't for Robert Johnson we'd not have the Blues or Rock n' Roll. Look at how many bands have covered his stuff from Cream to Led Zeppelin. He's probably influenced more players who have themselves influenced players then anyone on the planet.

@TNFrank

Just an FYI

Clapton has been inducted 3 times ( the only person so honored ) as a solo artist, with the Yardbirds & with Cream.

Yeah, Zack, I like Donovan too--I just don't see him being a Rocker--I guess I missed the show where he wore spandex ;).

How was he "not looked at fairly?" Not trying to bait you--it just seems that in the public eye it's unlikely that everybody in the world would just decide that this guy Donovan didn't deserve a fair shake. . .

LOL, I don't think it's so much the songs that KISS wrote as it is the Shows they put on and their Staying power in the industry. They started up back in '72 IIRC and they're still at it today, all be it with only 2 original members but still, ya' have to give em' credit for still being around.

captin...a lot of rock and blues just use the lyric for filler...e.g...I Wish I Was a Catfish

It is funny. I can hum many popular songs old and new...but don't ask me the lyrics.

Though not a huge fan, I respect that KISS has the longevity, record sales, and tons of sold out shows world-wide. Not much different that the Stones or Van Halen

Yes the hall of fame is a joke if Paul Butterfield is not there. He rocked the hardest with some of the most innovative music of the 60's and 70's. If Tom Waiyes, Dr. John and J Geils are being considered where is Paul?

I've never heard of Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis. But I love Dr John "The Night Tripper", he truly deserves this. I heard that he was much more successful in Europe than in U.S.... His last album is really cool.

Neil Diamond... I used to like him a lot when I was a kid ("Jonathan Livingstone"). Didn't listen to him much for the last 25 years, but I'm curious of his album produced by Rick Rubin a few years ago.

It isn't a joke - it's a business.

Look it up on Wikipaedia and read the note from the Sex Pistols (John Lydon I presume from the sneering tone); it's not just the usual punk, anti-establishment shock tactics, he's actually hit the nail firmly on the head.

If your only interest is to see your heroes turned into museum exhibits, then the spirit of Rock and Roll is truly dead.
