I think Rick is living out near Sacramento, CA these days. Expect to hear lots of West Coast Blues that will jump and swing. If he's got Kid Andersen with him, expect to hear some seriously bad ass guitar playing, too. He tours all over the U.S. Enjoy the show.

Here's an interesting interview that was published in the Golden Gate Blues Society's newsletter.

the guy is one of the best showmen out there.
he doesnt play with flash. he plays with substance and emotion.
go to youtube and search for his latest instructional dvd- it will give you an idea what he is about.

All that and more. GREAT showman, some really hysterical lyrics (check out "Handle with care" or "Clothesline") - and an amazingly good harp player in many styles. Have fun.

There could arguably be better players--although I doubt that myself--but there just isn't a better showman anywhere! You are in for a very special treat, NOD. . .

I shot this video in August at the Kitchener Blues Fest in Canada. Rick is definitely both a great player and showman. He is also very approachable. I got to hang a bit with the band at a club show after this mainstage. Kid on guitar is awesome too.

....a good friend of mine, helped me a lot during my brutal divorce of 1990, and a killer player/showman.
Original show name was "Coasting Hank".
And not ONE TIME does he look down at the floor with insecurity as if he was scared to death...now that's show business!

When Carey Bell left Muddy Waters' band, Waters needed a harp player for an upcoming tour and wanted to hire Rick Estrin, but couldn't find Rick in time and hired Mojo Buford instead. If that credential doesn't satisfy your friends. . . . Rick came up in the black blues scene in California in the late 1960s, and he also spent time in Chicago back then, where Muddy heard him play. He is a master of both West Coast and Chicago styles of blues and writes excellent songs in both schools.

Rick will do some tricks with diatonics that will astound your harp club, plus he'll play big 364/365s and chromatics with dazzling skill and musicality. If you can't see Rice Miller and Little Walter and Louis Jordan on the same night anymore, seeing Rick Estrin is probably the closest you can come to that today. Your harp club will be lifted up for weeks by seeing someone do so much with harmonicas, even any club members who don't particularly care about blues.

As a guitarist friend of mine has been saying for a couple of decades, "Rick Estrin is a significant blues harmonica player." But his shows are so much fun that you can safely invite anyone who just likes music.
