I have only bought one Manji so far in the key of Bb. It didn't play that well OOTB though it was incredibly loud with a bright resonant tone. I have gapped it and it plays well now, with the exception that I have experienced a buzz on the draw hole 1,2 area. It sounds as if the reed is touching the cover. I have never had this problem before on any harp including G (I've never bought anything lower) Anyone else experienced this, any solutions other than playing softer on this note during a riff?

My low F draw 1 buzzed badly. I opened the gap a little and it was cured. IMO if the gap is too tight on the low draw notes it can cause the reed to swing too wildly.

Yea I've been messing around with gapping and I wouldn't say I've sussed it, but I'm getting better.
I've adjusted all my harps now to OB easily on holes 4,5&6 and generally improve the strength of the notes on all the holes (see my thread to Harmonica Tweaks - choppajoe has some very good advice on the vid links there) I'm surprised at the reed settings on a lot of harps- (I only have experience with Hohner & Suzuki at present) but sometimes they are quite a long way out mainly with the gaps set too high. This ensures that anyone can blow or draw a note no matter how airy it might be. (they certainly don't want to set the gaps too tight so they choke on normal playing. I've found that closing the blow reed gaps to a fine tolerance can help a lot but this can depend on your playing style, take it too close and the blow holes will choke.
