Im with Buzadero. Maybe save your tokens and take an additional lesson at some point, they'll probably be glad you did. Now if you bumped into him/her at a bar maybe buy them a beer, heh, but that's altogether different.

I don't tip after a harmonica lesson
But I do try to give a Christmas gift if I feel the teacher is exceptional (e.g. $50 gas card)

I can tell from my experience (not harmonica related) that it's nice to know when a student really appreciates the quality of your work.

I'm a music teacher. [my day job] It's nice and thoughtful to get something around the holidays or at the end of the academic year from a student but it's not expected. Post #2 by "buzadero" pretty much sums it up from my perspective. "Blown out Reed" makes some good points too. Don't tip unless you really feel like you need to or if the teacher did something extra like spend tons of extra time [unpaid] getting you prepared for a big performance. I have often gone over in my lessons when a student needs a little extra help or is nervous about a recital or performance. I didn't expect a tip because I genuinely wanted the student to do well.
