The postman brought my new Deak Harp Custom Marine Band (Bb) to me yesterday, and I've hardly put it down since. Plays like butter!
Here's my initial impressions-as compared to my other OOTB harps, (Manji's, Seydels, Bushman's, Hohner's, etc).
It is "livelier" and more responsive. In other words, it takes less effort to get a cool sound.
It's louder than my Marine Bands, probably due to the wide open backs. There are three tall reed plate screws in the back which also reinforce the cover plates, so there is no way these cover plates will get crushed.
The smooth, rounded off corners give the harp an extremely comfortable fit in the hand, and also when tongue blocking the harp seems to fit just right in the corner of my mouth.
Now the big question- how does it overblow? My answer- Beats me! You can have him set it up to favor overblows if you want, but that's not my thing. I mean I can do an overblow, but it's more like a science experiment than a musical expression, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I'm VERY pleased with this instrument, the price is right ($130), and Deak includes a free phone lesson (see my earlier post regarding our TB lesson). Oh and one free tune-up also. Check 'em out!

Thx AV8R .. It makes me light up inside to know that a simple phone conversation can change someones whole outlook ... In harmonica Teaching over the phone ....It makes me happy to know that something i take for granted in my playing ... can be picked up by others .....im not trying to make a millon dollars playing harp ...Jason Ricci said it well ... Get used to Ramon Noodles ... if you want to be a pro harper .....He is dead on right .....I gave up my Union Carpenter book ... in the early 90's and been working part time in the day gigging at night ... for years ....So money was somthing i never had ....So a free harp lesson for the purchase of a harp .. And 1 yr garentee reed replacement or re tune .....in my eyes helps the buyer in Value ....I havent worked a day job since Mar ... So The Harp is starting to fully pay my bills .So giving back to the Comunity is just in my blood ....And i get great satisfaction knowing i helped out a fellow Harper .....Makes me feel good .....Im working on my forth gig this week and i cant wait to be off so i can work on more Harps ....Order Your's today ......
