I have this DVD. It is really NOT about how to play harp - it is about how to be a musician and a showman. But in typical Rick Estrin fashion it is riotously entertaining in any event. ---------- /Greg

Did you learn anything from it ?
I have it and watched it a couple of times (probably over a year ago now)... not sure I learned anything harmonica-wise, but I found it VERY entertaining !
Now there are definitely some "cool" things to be learned... but most people can't hope to ever be as cool as Rick Estrin !
I need to watch it again !

I learned a ton from it. No, it is not a learn-a-lick tutorial, but it is a tutorial of how to present the harmonica to an audience with interesting ideas revolving around phrasing, using a variety of tonal attacks to keep things interesting, and basically how to take what you've got to a higher level. Just watching Rick Estrin jiving about it all is worth the price of the dvd.

I got turned onto this DVD by a guy who has been touring the world for years. He said, it's a great DVD and he learned stuff from it.
The intro by Rick Estrin said that he isn't going to teach you how to operate the instrument and he doesn't. What he does do is provide some invaluable lessons on how to link a variety of techniques to make one's playing sound fresh. He also teaches some pretty interesting performance techniques. His suggestions should stimulate the imagination.
If a person is the type of person that is trying to learn to play by the numbers, buying his DVD is a waste of money. If one is attempting to learn how to incorporate a variety of techniques into their music, then it's a very interesting tool and worth the dough.
I haven't bought many harmonica instructional materials since the early 80's. I did buy this at a friend's recommendation. I found it to be helpful. Estrin presents the sort of knowledge that you can't get in college.
