I've got a custom harp coming from Deak Harp next week, as part of the deal you get a 30 minute lesson with the man himself, so we did that tonight.
I was kind of skeptical of how good a phone lesson would be vs. face to face, but we got a LOT done, it was very effective. (Actually he gave me at least 45 minutes). You wouldn't believe how he sounds, even over my crappy kitchen speaker phone, his sound was huge!
Anyway, the lesson was based on his YouTube beginner's TB lesson, which you should check out if you haven't already. He has a lot of cool tips that simplify the entire tongue blocking thing. Here's one---simply stick the low end of the harp into the corner of your mouth, and lightly lay the front of your tongue against the wood-this simple move isolates the 4 hole and you should get a nice clean 4 blow and draw. Try it!

It was a cool lesson, I'll report on the new harp next week.

See ya

I subscribed to Dave Barretts web site for a while and all his stuff is tonuge Blocking, i was so resistant for a while i even quit the website. Now i'm slowly getting the hang of it i don't know how i coped before just puckering.

It is hard to master for someone who just puckers but its well worth perservering. I still pucker but i find myself switching between the two methods.I think its really up'd my game and my tone amplified has improved alot.

Keep it up AV8R and Hobo!!!!:o)

@Hobostub & Ant- I sampled the non-member sections of Dave Barrett's website, (the section where you can watch a real student take Dave's TB lessons), and it seemed painfully slow. For me anyway, it is faster to take what you already know as a lip purser and then adapt it to tongue blocking. You might consider a TB phone lesson with Deak, he's a great guy and a great teacher, especially if you are new at it.

Deak's custom harp that I ordered (a Bb) will be here next week, will let you know how it sounds.

I agree about deak I was @hch and he had a real down to earth approach but would rather go to a workshop with a small number of students it would surely be more effective
