A big thanks to Harvey Berman for getting the ball rolling on this. We're doing a 'blues harp review' in conjunction with the New Orleans Blues Society(AKA VooDoo Blues Krewe)'s Louisiana Blues Preservation Week, which includes many(if not ALL)of the city's established and up-and-coming harp players. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
We have an all-star backing band:Jack Cole on bass, Big Daddy Jeff Ruello on guitar and Willie Panker(of Mark Hummel's BlowOut fame)on drums. Anyone passing thru New Orleans the weekend of September 24th, put this on your itinerary!

Bump. The show is this Friday night, if any of you are in or around New Orleans. The price is right(FREE)and the drinks are cheap. Johnny Sansone sent me an email stating he'll do his set with a guitar and harp in a rack, which should be cool. If any of you forumites stop by, say hello. I'll be the emcee, and performing first. It's gonna be a fun night!

Dang, Todd, I came to tell you I was coming to NOLA this weekend and saw this !
I don't know if I can make it in time for this but I am going to try, sounds awesome.
If I don't make it by Friday night, I'd still love to say how'syourmoman'an'em if you've got time for a coffee, beer or whatevah, if you actually had the space after doing that event!
I'd love to see you there, Littoral (why do I get so exited every time I see your handle? LOL).
I had such a blast meeting Adam Gussow, along with Sonny Boy Terry, H-Town Fess and JT-30 and checking out their scene in the Heights...
I can't wait to meet Todd, Harveyharp and the gang in NOLA.
If at all possible, I encourage everybody to consider being unreasonable, maybe even a little crazy, and drive the hell on down to The Big Easy, and let's have a blast beyond what we expected, and hook up in the real world, in a city steeped in History, culture and tradition!
OK, as Todd has been telling you, the Crescent City Harmonica Blues Review is happening this Friday at 8:00 at Peggy Sue's Lounge on the West Bank of New Orleans. It should be a good time. Todd, and Myself, and a couple of other Harp Players will be on WWOZ Radio tomorrow, shortly after 2:00 (probably around 2:15-2:20 talking about the event, and probably playing a couple of tunes. If you care to tune in, it is streamed live at WWOZ.org. If any of you are planning on coming down for the show, let me know, and I will mention your name and where you are from on the Air. Also, if you come down, there is really not a definite ending time for this show, so bring some harps, and we will do the best we can to get you up. Of course I do have a backing band to contend with.
Also, on Saturday Night, the second round of the Blues Challange to see who represents New Orleans in Memphis is being held at the Harley Davidson Dealership on Airline Hwy. It is right next to 61 Blues Hwy, a new local blues bar here in New Orleans. Normally they have a band on Saturday, but they are competing in the blues contest, so I do not know if that is a go or not. The band is fronted by a Delta Style Harp Player named Lil G. Also in ghe competition is Rocky Denney and his band. Rocky was at HCH with us this year. It should be a good time. Cover charge for the contest is $10. The Bar is run by a cool lady, who is best friends with Honey Piazza, and also Kim Wilson's wife. If some of you are coming down, I will ask her if she is doing a band on Saturday night. My guess, however, is no, because she is doing the Liquor Sales for the contest. ----------
Todd got pretty nervous when he was talking, but he named the song he did the Shanester Blues. And I told the whole world that Shane Holt from Austin (actually I said Mississippi but Todd corrected me) was coming to the harp show ----------
Just a few more hours til showtime. I'm very ready to have a good time and blow out a few harps! Anyone down this way should definitely come on out and enjoy a killer night of blues with almost all the blues harp players in the city either on the bill or in the crowd. I'm hoping to have some video footage to share. ----------

Well, it was a good one. Todd kicked it off and kicked butt, followed by Rocky Denny who was with us at HCH, then myself, then, I think Oscar, Table Jam, Caballero, then Terry Bolinger(Beltone)and on and on. We had Johnny Sansone, Andy J. Forest, J. Monque D, and we jammed for almost 5 hours. Shanster came over from Austin and he jammed with us. All in all, it was one of the best Harmonica Shows in New Orleans History.
There was no PA Feedack, no bad notes, the Backup band of professionals was perfect, and everyone made a little money.
It looks like it is going to be a annual event. ----------
Thank you Harvey and Todd, you guys are great hosts!
Thanks for greeting me and my wife so warmly, introducing me to Johnny Sansone, and passing me the mic several times!
Peggy Sue's was an awesome little neighborhood bar and she treated us like royalty! You can't beat that Southern warmth and hospitality!
Great playing by all!
It looks like y'alls scene is thriving. I may come back soon, might help an old fellow I met complete work on a historic Masonic Lodge over there on Oretha...can't remember the full street name, anyhow, I might spend some time there soon!
Annual Event? Cool that would be. Please don't let it turn into battle of the blah blah. Love to see some video, especially Todd after his alleged radio moment. Video or not, Todd, how did it go?
Glad to hear everything was good ! I feel so isolated here in Central New York....Syracuse usually has a great Blues Fest but it was canceled this year due to lack of funding.....can't wait for HCH II...maybe you can come this year Todd !! Harvey Hope to email you soon re: 2 harps.

Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art. - Charlie Parker
Catching up here, Shane, guessing you get the litteral meaning of littoral. I am a saltwalter kayak fishing junkie. Nice reds yesterday. Id rather fish than eat. ...and, I post on my phone and the captcha gets me too.
It went very, very well. Alas, my 'brothers' voted for me to go first, and those with video recorders(that I am aware of) missed me. I'm not nervous in front of a crowd-in fact, I"m very comfortable, especially with a killer backup band behind me like was the case on Friday night. In addition to the core band, I also had the great Thomas Walker playing guitar during my songs. Randy Landry walked in and set up his Q3 during my last number. Everyone played well, including Shane, who even got to share the stage with J Monque D a few times. I believe Beltone started up 'Every Day I've got The Blues', and JMD jumped in and sang it in Cajun French! Yes, we WILL do this again. And hopefully, I will have my own video next time. ----------

They liked Andy J Forest so much at the Harmonica Show that they hired him for the Blues Challange the next night. We turned the Harley Davidson dealer into a night club. He closed out the show while the Judges talleyed the votes. He forgot his washboard, so he grabbed the Office Step Stool and held it on with Bungee Cords. Only in New Orleans
It was a fantastic show. We had a great crowd from the very beginning until the very end-5 hours later at 1 a.m.
Playing with a stellar band behind you brings out the very best in everyone-myself included. It's so comfortable knowing you have an intuitive and interactive support system listening to you and watching for your signals. Plus, Harvey did a great job with sound, and you really can't go wrong with an EV638 thru a Sonny Jr, or the Ultimate 545 he had running thru the PA.
Dunno if there's any video of me playing, as I was first and people were still rolling in, but Randy Landry might have caught some of my last tune on his Q3. I played Blues with a Feeling, Call My Job and As The Years Go Passing By, in that order. We WILL do it again annually, if not sooner. Peggy Sue is a gracious and accomodating host, but I think we're gonna need a bigger venue for the next one.
