So i have asked Tinus Koorn and he says jazz isnt really possible to play without overblows. What do you think on this topic?

he's wrong.

perhaps Tinus can't play without OBs but a good musician doesn't need them.

listen to PT Gazell and Brendan Power as well.

I agree. Not all styles of jazz need every single note on the chromatic scale anywat and there are other ways of getting the notes for the ones that do (valved bends, alternate tunings, harmonca switching, chromatic harps - just to name a few). Overblowing is another way - but not the only way.

I think he assumed you meant on a Ricther tuned harmonica. He also said 'not really.' He did not specify tuning, valves, etc.

I guess you could play Jazz with just one note if you are really good at it.. And with diatonic richter harp you get 19 notes even if you can't even bend ;)

Brendan and PT don't do OB's, but they play on half-valved harps...

Notes are notes no matter how you get them.
I think a good test might be the tune Invitation.

I think that a player who really knows their positions (at least 1-5 and 12) can play jazz without OBs... but it's preferable to have them (or some other way of achieving chromaticity, like valving).

If you are playing extremely complex jazz songs you more than likely would run into places where an overblow was needed.

On a diatonic I could see it becoming problematic with songs that have half-step modulations. Try playing 10th position minor without OBs. the note choice becomes extremely limited.
