I was recently given a 64 Chromonica No.280. I looked around online and I think it is late 30s-mid 40s?

Does anyone know more about this harp? It looks and plays like it has not been used for a while but is in fair
shape. Wood box is worn out though.

Is this harp worth rebuilding? If so, please recommend someone so I can get a quote. I have a 12 hole CX12
that is fun to (try to) play so I would like to keep this 64 if its worth it.

Thanks...

None of the present day 64 parts will fit these and no replacement parts have been available since the mid 80`s. I`d get this to a reputable chromatic customizer like Dick Gardner, Steve Pruitt, or Michael Easton rebuild it as they`re more likely to have parts stockpiled for them but do NOT send it back to Hohner or you`ll never get it back and I know of quite a few players that they did that to.

Those 64's are straight tuned like a 270 with an extra octave and the ones since they've redesigned it back in the mid to late 60's with a plastic comb are cross tuned and the parts are completely incompatible.

I've got one and I love the tone of these instruments, Kim Wilson uses one that was customized by Joe Filisko but using a hand milled lucte comb.
