I just got Randy Landry from Lone Wolf (I am a proud endorsee) to modify my new Valve Jr. with the Eminence speaker. I used to have the old version without the Eminence. In addition to the tone control Randy always does, I had him install a line out.
Here's my question... I am theorizing that putting this amp through two channels in the p.a. -- one with the line out, the other micing the amp -- will yield a big, full sound. Has anyone tried something like this, with this or another amp? Thanks in advance.

Hey Scott-Randy did mine as well, and also with the line out. I have used the line out a couple of times, but before I took those awful stock Russian tubes out, and the distortion was not a smooth, creamy one, so it just 'amplified' the problem, pun intended. I chose to mic it from thereon out-it's got enough volume stand hold it's own mic'd up. Recently I got JJ replacement tubes for both the el84 and 12ax7, and now I have that creamy, non-harsh tone I was seeking from the amp. Who knew 20$ could do this? Highly, Highly Recommended, by the way.
I will try the line out again on Monday(band rehearsal)and let you know if the tubes also made a difference in the sound of it. If you have sway with the soundman(or you ARE the soundman!), try to mic it AND do a line out, then get him to mix the two-it DOES sound big. I haven't messed with panning the two inputs to the opposite sides to simulate a stereo effect, but that could be cool as well.
Scott, got any plans to come down this way again soon? I owe you a visit.

Actually Todd, in my opinion, you should never use a stereo effect for a live venue, because unless you are listening dead center, then you only get part of the sound. I think that you will find that all live venues are mono. At least this is the way I do it. Someone correct me if I am wrong abouit this ----------

Many keyboardists run in stereo, and it's a cool effect live, especially when tremelo is used and the sound pans back and forth. In most live situations in small clubs especially, this is an unavailable luxury. ----------

Todd, thanks for the info. That's exactly what I meant... get the soundman to do both and mix them, or do a SLIGHT panning of each channel. Harvey, it's not unusual for other instruments to do something like this. I'm not aiming for drastically different sounds in each channel... the fact that one is miked and the other is the line out would -- I'm hoping -- lead to a bigger presence. Still interested in other perspectives.
Todd, I don't currently have anything scheduled down there but hope to book something around November or so. Will let you know. You should come up to Jackson, by the way, for this:

Scott-It'll be tricky, as we've got a teeneager in high school band who plays in just about every game(usually on Friday nights)and my two little ones-the boy is playing 5-6 yr old football and the girl is in 6-7 yr old cheerleading, so my weekends are booked with that stuff-but, if we manage to have a free day or so, we might just take a ride. That's a sweet lineup! ----------

Believe me Todd, with three little ones (all under 5), I know the drill. :)
