Is it a diatonic or chromatic?

(Sorry, it's only a clip, and can't find the equivalent on youtube)

He`s switching harps, something he`s done quite often. The tune is in the key of C, using a Low F MB played in 2nd position, a Bb MB played in 3rd position, and a Bb 270 chromatic (a 12 hole, 3 octave chromatic) played in 3rd position (tho not neccessarilly in that order).

I've had a question about this for a long time. Maybe one of you can answer.
Smith died in 1983 or 1984....was the Low F harp even in production then?
thanks

Yup, sure I knew that. LOL.

Thanks bbqbob. I have the complete song, and it's an awesome tune IMO, but I couldn't figure out how the hell he was getting so many sounds out of a diatonic. Your description explains why.

Low F`s were mainly special order only until the mid 80`s and the first one I got in 1981 was set up for me by Frank Huang (classical harp virtuoso Cham-Ber Huang`s brother), who was a harp tech for Hohner until he left a year later to join his brother at Huang Harmonicas and that played more like a pre-WWII harp. Since the mid 90`s, Low D thru Low F# are regular production.

@BarbecueBob
Many thanks.
I have wondered about all that for lots of years.
Those were the years when I was out of the racket and didn't get back in it serious until around 1988-1989.
"mystery" solved.
Regards
