Does this look familiar?
Dirty-South Blues Harp forum: ***Due to a spam problem, this forum is open to REGISTERED MEMBERS ONLY. We're not currently accepting new members, but please check back at a later date.
This is a very lightly moderated forum in which registered members may freely exchange thoughts, tips, and useful insights about any and all harp-related topics. Beginners welcome! You do not need to play the harmonica well to contribute to the dialogue. This forum values the wisdom of novices and old-timers alike.
A quick word about board etiquette: the phrase "freely exchange" above carries with it a burden of responsibility. Please assume that your fellow board members (including me) are well-intentioned. Treat them civilly. The golden rule is a good guide. We come here to share information, conspire with like-minded others, educate ourselves, cheer each other on, and maybe help each other deal skillfully with the rough changes that the blues-focused life can sometimes put us through. Vigorous, passionate conversation is fine. But please refrain from flaming, insulting, or otherwise impugning the intelligence or good intentions of your fellow board members, or from starting threads that seek to encourage that sort of behavior. Religion is one topic where we have, unfortunately, proven our inability to remain civil or respect each other's differences. Accordingly, threads containing the word "religion" or variants on that word, and/or threads devoted explicitly to discussions of religion are BANNED FROM THIS FORUM until further notice.
Please also note: although conversation about blues harmonica and related issues is not something that should be subject to the hectoring of the Nanny State, neither is this forum a (white) men's locker room in which casual (or intentional) ethinic or racial slurs, anti-gay rants, nationalist cant, and/or misogynist idiocy are welcome. Some of us are black. Some of us are white. Some of us are Asian. Some of us are mixed. Some of us hail from countries other than America, or have family who do. Some of us are interracially married. Some of us are gay. All of us share a love for blues harmonica, and that is what brings us here to share a space in which we can express that love. This forum has a one-warning rule on such matters. It shouldn't be hard to figure out what that means. Share the love. (Slight modification by popular demand: Australians, descendants of criminal Englishmen that they are, will be granted TWO warnings, but only when their slurs concern the sexual preferences of New Zealand sheepherders.)
On extremely rare occasions, when confronted with flagrant and/or repeat violations of board etiquette, I reserve the King's divine right to banish wrongdoers from the kingdom. Please don't be evil.
As Big Walter once said, Have a good time!

I've just made a few additional modifications to the forum creed. I've taken out the part about criminal Englishmen, their Australian descendants, and New Zealand sheepherders. It was in bad taste. That's your one warning, Gussow.
I've also put in a line or two about off-topic threads: they're permitted, but sparingly. And I added a sentence about it being OK to occasionally grip about the missus or the hubby--again, sparingly. Avoidance of misogyny is one thing--it creates a welcoming environment for our female members--but this is a blues forum, after all, and we're only human. ----------

I had an ancestor on my father's side transported as a convict in the first half of the 19th century. I wear it with pride, so don't sweat it Adam.
I was relieved to see I got an extra chance. You should put that clause back in for we recidivists.

And Stickman, thanks. I was so focused on looking for a hot link that I didn't see the wall before my eyes.

As a "white man" I am deeply offended by use of the phrase "white man's locker room". I respectfully request that it be removed from the forum creed. If this isn't done, I feel that I will be forced to go into hiding, thereby denying other board members my vast insight into; ruining reeds, mangling the blue third and innacurate information about old bluesmen.
thank you.

It seems like every month we amend this thing. Let's just adopt the U.S. Constitution, the EU Constitution, the U. N. Charter and whatever else is out there that applies. This should cover it I think.LOL ----------

I've amended it three or four times in the year and a half that the forum has been in existence. That's hardly once a month.
I amend it only when I'm absolutely forced to: when you guys--the forum membership as a whole--misbehave in lunatic ways. Need I remind you that the underlined clause forbidding discussions of religion was added after one of our members posted the names and case histories of 70 priests who had been accused of pederasty?
If the forum membership had simply exercised a little compassion, common sense, and basic human respect respectfulness, the original creed (which you can probably unearth on the Wayback website) would never have needed amending.

You've got that right, Adam....
However, changing the forum creed isn't going to do much (as is proven in the past)... it's the members that need to change and apply some common sense....... if they can't handle that... BOOTH them out... EVEN if they apologize.. If little kids do something wrong and they apologize, you should forgive them and give them another chance.. it's a part of growing up and teaching them.. But here we are dealing mostly with grown ups who should know better and should think BEFORE they post something.... As much as I hate to say it, but this forum needs a good example (of what happens when you screw up) The rules are there, if you don't enforce them, what's the use of having them?

Maybe Adam should amend the Forum Creed to prohibit threads and posts about the Forum Creed.
