I've been on a bit of a Sonny Boy Williamson kick lately and i've been woodshedding River Rhine, mainly to practice my tongue blocking but its also a pretty cool tune.
This is the first time i've attempted to try and sing, although this song is kinda spoken word(another reason why i picked it! lol). I'm also 95% tongue blocking, which is something i never do so this is really taking me out of my comfort zone.
So please upload anything you might know Sonny Boy related, be it a riff, lick or whatever. If you don't know any Sonny Boy stuff just upload a vid for fun anyway:O)
Learning how to manipulate those hands and fingers are a HUGE part of that sound and most players don't use their hands much outside of just holding the instrument. There's tons of stuff that can be done easily TB'd or puckered, and I believe he did both. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
did rice miller play 100% acoustic? playing acoustic gives you more use of your hands-I have tried playing with amps and its all I can do to hang on to my harp
All the video I've seen has him using his hands a LOT - up close to the PA mic. Of course he's playing with electric guitar players - so I don't exactly think of it as acoustic - though it's often with a stand up bass and brushes on the drums.
It was a borderline call - but I started a new thread on his hand technique (one thing in particular -just to get it going) - and cause I didn't care to 'throw down' on this one. ----------
All the video I've seen has him using his hands a LOT - as bbqbob points out. Up close to the PA mic. - and backed off a bit to fully cup, whah etc.
Of course he's playing with electric guitar players-and it is Chicago Blues - so I don't exactly think of it as acoustic - though it's often with a stand up bass and brushes used on the drums.
It was a borderline call - but I started a new thread on his hand technique (one thing in particular -just to get it going) -cause I think it's important on its' own, cause I didn't care to 'throw down' on this one, and cause I bothered to cut some nice example snippets. ----------

Not to derail the thread since I like the idea but I have to ask, are all of your one thousand posts about what players don't do? ---------- WORLD CLASS HARMONICA PLAYER
