I'm gonna be up in Memphis this weekend, and although my little ones will be along, there is a slight chance the mrs. and I can get out and about. I'll have harps with me, but don't need to play-although I'd love to. Anyone up that way know who to check out and where in case I get some time?

Oh, and bbq/sightseeing(with kids) suggestions are welcome as well! As of now, I'll hit Central BBQ on my dad's recommendations.

I can help you and the kids. Billy Gibson lives up there and he does a mean rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

You could try Corky's too for comparison to the Central BBQ.... and the Run Boogie Cafe is central and usually has some accessibility... depending on who is there.

Thanks Nancy...we actually have a Corky's here in the New Orleans area-dunno how similar the original location is. I doubt I could drag my wife to more than one bbq joint in one day-that sounds like a guy trip!

I can't help it if you married the wrong girl Todd...lol!
I haven't been back there in a while but here's some more places to check....
The Black Diamond and

Earnestine and Hazel’s
531 S. Main St., Memphis, Tennessee; Tel. 901.523.9754

Since its early days as a brothel Earnestine and Hazel’s has come a long way from the gentleman’s club of yore. In fact, today the bar is a Memphis live blues hotspot that boasts an extensive full bar and juicy Soul Burgers. Stay late, dance, and soak up some Memphis history while listening to the best jukebox in town after the live musicians have gone from playing on the stage to drinking at the bar. On weekend nights the piano bar, R&B, jazz and local jam sessions can be heard inside the club making Earnestine and Hazel’s an excellent Memphis bar.

What ever you do enjoy yourself!

Never buy a barbeque in Memphis if they don't cook it on the premises, The smell of the Q is what brings the people in and it loses taste in the journey to a non cooking shop. Corkeys is great, try Interstate barbeque in Memphis. I live in the burbs and get mine at Capt John's in Collierville.... They have Corkeys there but it doesn't taste as good as it does at the original one in Memphis... Its Great...

I've heard of Interstate as well(food network) and I'm curious. I am not wild about the Corky's chain we have here in New Orleans, but maybe the one up there is better? I agree-I want my Q cooked onsite. Central does, I think, plus I'm told they make killer wings-smoked, then deep fried and rolled in sauce(cholesterol be damned!) and their own bbq potato chips. And yes, I am packing my Prevacid!
Nancy, she's the right girl-she's a foodie and avid cook like me, too-but the one thing she is fairly indifferent towards, as luck would have it, is barbecue.

Weather forecast isn't looking too wonderful and might limit our activities, but I do appreciate the tips, folks.

I like my barbeque sandwich pulled, white meat, sauce and slaw on the side and my ribs wet, not dry. some like the sauce on the barbeque sandwitch, but they tend to drown it, plus some Louisiana hot sauce on the side to heat it up if needed , no habanero for me... Your wife should find plenty of good food here, try Gus Fried chicken, Dyers hamburgers cooked in the same grease for 70 years. Try the Rendezvous for ribs, its close to Beale St. Hope you enjoy your trip

Rod & Hanks Vintage Guitars Incorporated

It's been years since I have been to Memphis but this shop was something to see if you like vintage musical instruments.

Yeah, I've seen Dyer's-but didn't know about them using the same(strained daily)grease for almost 100 years...mmmmmm! Dyer's seems aptly named!

I will definitely try to check out Rod & Hanks!

That's funny. I've seen places over the years that pride themselves in changing their grease daily-and this place hasn't EVER changed theirs. I might get a burger out of morbid curiosity!
