In the hope that my old pal Mason will join the forum (I'll expedite his application) and participate, I'm going to post some videos and links. This conversation started in another thread, but it deserves its own thread.
Let's start with his MySpace page:

There are a lot of videos there; I'll post some of them here:
My favorite is this one, and it's worth nothing that the band includes Popa Chubby and Arthur Neilsen, arguably two of the best blues-rock guitarists to come out of New York City in the past two decades. Mason does some great stuff right at the end:
My man- exfoliating in all directions at the same time- looking like James Cagney walking around the village-always unscrewing the mesh off of stage mikes for the extra volume! In a great band with Zach Zunis in his final NYC days. Both friends- even took some lessons from him. The first time I ever saw him at "Chicago Blues" he personified verve with some monster tone on a Santana-ish song followed by some torrid CXR stuff..... I still play with Arthur all the time. He plays bass for Big Ed Sullivan who was my second guitarist at a show last night. Poppa Chubby's wife Galea (aka Bad Housewife) is a verveful bass player as well. Anyway Mason is a nuclear powered blower (he loooved William Clarke). d ---------- myspacefacebook
Mason is one cool cat. I love his style. Shirt off? He don't give a shit! Shirt on, who cares?! My question is simply this...does he play harp upside down? Seems like his high end is reversed and vice versa...or maybe that is just how the video took it...what do I know?
But if I am correct, why reversed? And who else has played that way? Did Butterfield do that? Anyone else on the Forum do it that way...maybe if you do, you are amphibious (a phrase I borrowed from once famous NC State basketball player Chris Washburn who really meant to say Ambidextrous). First time I heard of Mason Casey was on that thread that Adam referred to, but it goes to show me that there are many extremely talented folks that are not known nationally (or internationally for that matter) that can flat-out git it on!!!
Mason, you rock my brother!!! Anybody heard of Ace Anderson with Jubal-Kane...he can play...very much a rockin style, with phenomenal vibrato...man I got a lot to learn!!!!
I am happy to see some people like my music, I couldda been singin better but, I'm working on that... Yes I play backwards/upsidedown,learned that way, by listening to Blues LPs and copying riffs, never looked at a book or had a lesson, still learning...
Welcome to the form Mason ... Im glad you came in to say hello ...It was great taking to you last week on the phone ....Hope to hear more about what you are up to ... Keep us informed .... Deak Harp
