At the end of May I ordered a brass combed Marine Band Deluxe from Blow Your Brass Off/ Chris Reynolds.
Because his supplier was unable to get an MBD quickly, he talked me through other options. He put together a Marine Band with a brass comb for me. He threw in an aluminum comb because of the extra wait and the price difference. I got a deal.
Below are pictures of the brass comb Marine Band and the aluminum comb plugged into a MBD.
I'm very impressed with the reed work on the brass combed marine band. The harp is heavy in the hand and is very responsive. People have mentioned that metal combs make harmonicas feel 'more like a real instrument'. I guess you could say that. To me, it feels very robust (I don't use that word very often). It feels like an instrument I can feel comfortable with my great grandkids finding in an old desk.
Anyway, there was another thread discussing customization vs. DIY. Maybe I could achieve these results after a lot of tinkering, practice, accumulating materials, trial and error. If it were my work, I'd never feel like it was "done". There could always be adjustments to be made.
Now that it is someone else's work, I'm more comfortable accepting the harp as it is. I adjust my expectations more than I'll get under the hood.
I made this purchase after too many hours spent drilling, gapping and lining up plates to combs. In the city, my workshop is a kitchen counter and I'm done putting wood and metal shavings there.
I purchased a custom because i reached a plateau of what i wanted to work on. I'm lucky to have gained a little knowledge of maintenance, but as I'm getting into chromatic stuff now, I'm appreciating the work and service of customizers and techs.
Take a look. What do you think?

You've got a couple beautiful harps there! :)
I've got a Suzuki Hammond C and Promaster Valved D, both in aluminum combs and love them -- my favorites. I have a Manji G with the composite wood/plastic and like that almost as well.
Those are my three favorite harps.
