It's a combo of getting the hands and mouth to work together. It's not very hard at all. It just takes practice. Watch James Cotton do it on the Slow Blues on YouTube. It's all right there.

One you have mastered the cupping and the right breath....it is truly the timing of the opening of the hands that makes a masterful 'wah'.
