I was checking out AC Reed because i heard mention that listening to great sax can help with harp,so i did a search on here and found out a few names.AC Reed is one of em.I thought this song was cool, and he does play some great sax,but what got my attention was the cool bass groove anyone know who the bass player is?
When i first started learning sax all i had was a couple of A C Reed albums. Twenty years later i still play and sing five A C Reed songs in the playlist. Hes just got the coolest groove going.
There are several bass players on that album. On I Am Fed Up, it's Johnny B Gayden. He's rock solid as are the other guys on the release. This album is worth owning. Most of the Chicago guys have a groove as deep as the Grand Canyon.

AC Reed was very well respected in Chicago. He was highly sought after. He played and recorded with damn near everyone. I had the opportunity to see him several times. He was great.
He recorded some hard to find 45's in 1961 that are excellent and super hard to find. The tracks you heard are available from his release on Alligator Records. It's still available. He also recorded a CD for Delmark Records.
I got to play with him many times when I would sit in with Albert Collins. AC had a trippy set up- some kind of old phone cord (spiraled type) pickup/or mic attached on his sax and would run it through a fender amp. Another great sax man I got to play with was Big Jay McNeely at the brussels jazz club on the grande place in Brussels. If you are digging sax lines, check Big Jay out. Walter
