The other night I was watching a jazz project here at Oulu (called "Nuclear Bomb" named after the venue they played in). There were 2 guitarists, bassist, drummer, trumpetist & effects man involved. The effects man was an old friend of mine - actually proper term would be ambient musician I guess.
That was really cool performance and opened up some musical insights too. All the musicians had lots of effects they incorporated to the performance switching those in improvisation. I really hope they will perform again sometime. It was really a lesson of improvisation. I think that it requires a lot of concentration and intelligence to improvise so much together with some people you have never played before. And especially for the ambient guy who don't even have so much musical frames to play with but has to rely instead even more to the intuition and feelings.
