Core band puts on these shows about every nine months, and we always pack the place. Had to turn away people at the door tonight...place filled up an hour ahead of first set.

It's not just us. We feature players that have shown up as long term supporters of the scene. Many are not the most inherently talented, but they learn their parts and SHOW UP!

One of our biggest boosters has been Connie...who loves to dance. I did not know before that she liked to play drums.
She had never played before others ...but she had signed up to do several numbers for this. She arrived assiduously at practices, and did her songs OK in spots, but clumsilly in others.
Some of the other players wondered if she were up for it.

Tonight, immediatelly before we were to start, she approached me and told me of her trepidation....that she was afraid of messing up.
I told her that she would do fine, IF SHE DID LESS. Simplify it. Become a human metronome.

I explained that many musicians try to overcompensate by playing too much, or too fast. Just keep it basic...in the pocket, and you'll be fine.
That seemed to calm her down, and she was appreciative.

Later, Jimmy called her up and did a slow one, Then broke out into a trapdoor rendition of "Birthday".
Talk about trial by fire !
Connie ROCKED the house !
Man! A STAR is born ! Our band drummer was impressed, and said so !

As for harmonica...yeah, there is some in the Beatles songbook, but it's not demonstrative.
I played fills and comps most of the night, and harmonizing vocals.

Sang lead on "Yellow Submarine", and did the horn refrain.

The big hit of the night was when I sang "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", in costume, with silver hammer and an anvil.
I had the bloody silver hammer, the bloody rubber gloves, the goggles, and the scrubs overshirt.
