You know, just got in from an open mic night that my dad in law took me to a few hours from London in this small airfield hangar type place, and I thought I'd catch up with you guys......Good to see the usual shit going on but a bit sad to see the other usual shit going on too! Ho hum.... It made me think I've gotta share my thoughts...anyway....I'm here to visit my wifes relatives for the family tour of duty and this night was on the cards. The in house band was sensational and quite a hard act to follow, but you know when it was my turn to get up, and I launched into what I know best- just gettin down to the rhythm and playin all over my 1847 in A with just enough high blow bends at the right moments- trading licks with the conservative but hot lead guitarist, it all just fell together and felt unreal!!! Everyone wanted to get back up and play and the beer was free from then on!l Sorry my post is a bit beer flavoured (and peppered with Aussie-speak) but ......YEHAA!, Like they say...'I just love this shit-kickin' music'!

Thanks jbone, I checked out a vid my dad in law shot of the event and I have to be my own worst critic now the beer has worn off! - played a bit too much, hit a few bum notes, should have back up vocaled a bit more instead of 'over comping', but it's good to take stock and try to do better next time. Important thing is I'm happy to be improving, and constantly learning when not to play. It's something to always keep in mind no matter what level you're at.

It's always a surprise and very instructive to listen to recordings of a performance--even for seasoned professional musicians (not that i pretend to to be a seasoned professional, but the other musicians in my band are). You hear things you didn't hear during the performance--both good and bad--and you make adjustments for the next opportunity to perform.
But the magic of the moment when performing in public on stage with other musicians is exhilarating when things are coming together and going well.
