Can a hi-z cable xlr ->1/4"TR be wired to be both pin2 and pin 3 hot to cover all the bases. In other words can you wire pin2 to pin3 and have a cable that will work in all hi-z xlr situations I have a few mics that are hi-z w/ xlr connectors some are pin2 some where pin3 that got rewired to pin2 hot to match my cables. I would like to just wire up my cables to be multi purpose if this is possible.

Yes! You can. SOME mics will foil your efforts though - they MIGHT have the non-used pin grounded. If I remember correctly the Shure 545 is one of these. Of course if you plug in a low-Z mic you will get NOTHING from it.
