Anybody got the album "full house live" and more importantly is it worth the $8 i-Tunes wants for it? What are your thoughts?

it rocks!!
wolf has the rap down! "this is called, 'take out your false teeth, momma. i wanna suck on your gums.'"
the band is tight.
and who doesnt like "whammer jammer"?
the down side is it is only about 35 minutes long.
but that is what the "repeat" button is for.

It's short because they play so damn fast. I was very familiar with the studio versions of the songs before I heard the live versions. It's all supercharged with adrenilin--or something else, considering the time period. :>)

Save your money-wait for the Deluxe Edition with the original eight tunes plus 23 additional songs from the original dates April 21-22 1972.
The original was eight songs because the original pressing was done on vinyl and transferred to cassette,so limitations had a hand in the length of the recordings.

Share Boston may have been home for The J. Geils Band, but the city of Detroit adopted the rock ’n’ soul sextet as one of its own. The group returned the Motor City’s hospitality, recording three live albums there during a ten-year span. Rhino Handmade is now playing its own hot hand with an expanded version of the band’s first, “Live” Full House.

The two-disc “LIVE” FULL HOUSE (DELUXE EDITION) set contains The J. Geils Band’s April 21 and 22, 1972 concerts at The Cinderella Ballroom in their entirety, including the eight tracks featured on the original 1972 live album along with 23 unreleased performances. As a bonus, the set comes packaged with six playing cards, one for each member of the band. The Rhino Handmade Deluxe Edition is available for pre-order today exclusively at www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $39.98 and is set for release on August 3.

Peter Wolf (vocals), Seth Justman (keyboards), J. Geils (guitar), Magic Dick (harp), Danny Klein (bass), and Stephen Jo Bladd (drums) recorded two modestly successful studio albums before making the unconventional decision to record their third effort live. Full House, as the document came to be called, is a fiery snapshot of a band coming into full possession of its powers and is considered by many to be one of the greatest live albums of all time.

For a recent extensive MassLIVE exclusive interview with Peter Wolf, click here.

Composed entirely of songs from the two previously released Geils albums, Full House easily outsold both and was the band’s first gold album. Rhino Handmade’s “LIVE” FULL HOUSE (DELUXE EDITION) includes unreleased versions of the original album’s eight tracks, including “Whammer Jammer” and “First I Look At The Purse” recorded Friday night as well as “Pack Fair And Square” taken from Saturday night.

Among the set’s 31 tracks are never-before heard versions of Albert Collins’ “Sno-Cone,” “Wait,” “Floyd’s Hotel,” and “(Ain’t Nothing But A) House Party,” a song that would appear the following year on Bloodshot, the group’s most successful release during their decade with Atlantic Records.

Ben Edmonds, a writer for Creem at the time of the recording, pens the liner notes. He writes: “Home being where they’re supposed to love you no matter what, any serious band needs to test itself in a tough out-of-town arena to find out what it’s capable of. That’s what Detroit was for the Geils band, and it is no slight to Boston to suggest that the group responded to the warmth of the city’s embrace with the most passionate performances they’d ever given.”

Great album. Why did I never notice before that that is not actually a full house on the cover? Weird.

Not quite sure why, but you may have been too busy trying to learn "Whammer Jammer" on that harmonica you bought at Sears. Seriously though, it is a great album, and the expanded version should be really nice. I think this was recorded around the time I saw them open for Alice Cooper at a huge outdoor venue in Hartford. Was it Colt Park? Hmmmm.......

let me get this straight. their gonna release a 2 disc live album. but disc 1 is the same as disc 2 (except for an encore)?
that, to me, is a scam! their shows were always almost exactly duplicated from on night to the next.
i will lay $5 with anyone, right now, that patter, solos, endings will be almost identical.
i dont know why, but i would have thought the band was above this sort of whoring of themselves. i guess they are just like most of us that will do just about anything to make a dollar.
i'll still be on my feet the entire show, though!

I got jacked!!!!! I tried to order the album from i-tunes last night and it timed out before the download was complete. so no music and somehow my balance came up $4 less than it was before. I was looking at this album because I had just enough in my account to buy it. Now I got 4 bucks left and doubt it would be worth spending an hour or more of my time trying to recoup my loss. Oh well.

I will take Tmf's advice and wait for the deluxe addition but as eharp pointed out the songs are the same so I will order them individually from i-tunes. Otherwise I go with the 8 songs.

BTW what up with the gum sucking? is that something on that album?
