Who have you played with lately that might constitute a "cool hang"! Like, I got to do a finale number with Pattie Smith a few months ago, recently sat in on a festival with Smokin Joe Kubek, have a booking with Christine Ohlman next month and may sit in with Bernie Worrell next Sat at the Sourlands. These are friends of mine or are people that I respect and resulted (or will) in cool exchanges of ideas and emotions, they inspire me and keep me going.

Yours don't have to be Nationals... it could be hanging with your nephew... as long as it is a cool hang, an inspirational exchange, involves your harp, your heart - and is a short list or story!

I played with my wife for our friends while sitting around a camp fire on the bank of the Shenandoah River on July 4. That was pretty cool. Played things like Dock of the Bay, Margaritaville, Brown Eyed Girl, Country Roads. We had a blast.

I was at an open stage Tues. and this sax player showed. He's a pro-toured with Maynard Fergusen-he makes his living at it. He wanted to do some stuff where we both play the head together. We did "Low Rider:,"Chameleon", and some Eddie Harris tune whose title escapes me. I had a blast!

Just got together with old friends last weekend.
Always a good time. Always a great rhythm section.
We all have a mutual love of the blues...

I play with Ashford and Simpson (more Valerie Simpson on vocals and piano) every tuesday. I played with Felecia Collins (guitarist/singer-David Letterman) recently. All these artists (unbeknownst to most) have blues sides. e.g., Nick Ashford sang "Let's go get Stoned" which he and Valerie wrote for Ray Charles, etc. d
