Hiya Folks,

I thought this would be a neat thread to have. Where we can post any harp-related footage from what-have-you.

So it can be an interesting article which mentions the harp, or a scene with harmonica bg music, an image, whatevs!

I was about to upload my contribution; A scene from "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans" cene for you guys but I found it on youtube. Watch it in full, but if you can't just skip to 1:30

Good idea, Oda.

Howard Levy did a running solo harmonica score for the episode of NPR radio show "This American Life" about summer camp. It was originally broadcast back in 1998 but was rebroadcast just last weekend. Here's the link to the webpage for the episode, with a free mp3.

Recently I have done the soundtrack for 3 NBC specials called "stories". I think this must be the only network show that has a totally spontaneous soundtrack. they call me with the theme and I send them a bunch of songs. Here is the first show broken into 4 parts. There is a spontobeat story in the last segment. The last one I did was a couple months ago with a focus on baseball. Walter

part 2

part 3

part 4 (Segment on spontobeat)

I can't really think of another movie where the harmonica played such a crucial role in the plot - or was used with such symbolism.

Keep your lovin' brother happy:

Those of us on Richard Sleigh's mailing list will have got a reminder of this a few days ago.

For me Toots' chromatic work, wonderful in its simplicity, is the perfect accompaniment for the elegance of the beautiful Audrey Hepburn.

I love it.

The band doing the music for the Tom Turkey and his Harmonica Humdingers cartoon that Germanharpist posted above was Borrah Minnevitch and the Harmonica Rascals.

The footage below is from the Laurel and Hardy short "Towed in a Hole." The Laurel and Hardy forum guys ran with this blues jingle Hardy sang when they were selling fish in the movie.

I'm surprised I didn't think of this earlier, as much as I watch this show. When we got cable a few months ago, BBC on demand came with it, my wife was very clear "We are not going to be watching BBC News and Last of the Summer Wine constantly" lol... Unfortunately, it's not on BBC demand. The theme song is played on harmonica and the background music during the show is 90 percent harmonica.

Thanks for the correction Diggs.

I never knew the player, just loved the music. I used Google to identify the player. It seems there's a lot of misinformation out there!

Still, Audrey Hepburn is still the most beautiful woman to have graced our movie screens, regardless of who played the harmonica for her!

On a different note, I do like the incidental harp work - including Bass harp - on My Name Is Earl
