Has anybody tried out his harps? Especially the Beta 2 & 3. It seems that if those harps are good, the price isn't bad. It's only 140 euros for the beta-3 and he uses Seydel 1847 as the basis, which cost OOB about 70 euros. This means that the labor is only 70 euros, which isn't much if you know what it takes to make o good custom harp.
Of course it depends on the quality of work. It is rather easy to make decent customs with minimum amount of work, but to make those really awesome requires something else.
So, any experiences?

apskarp> I have a couple of Bens Beta 1 Harps a Seydel 1847 in D and a Manji in G. They for me are a quantum leap over other ootb harps I have. Very responsive and easy to play.
I am not an overblower so cannot comment on this aspect of their performance but I'm sure Ben can build you what you want. My use is for Irish & American Fiddle tunes & I was having difficulty with OOTB D harps stalling on me on the high notes on fast tunes. Bens harps work well.

I have a stage 2 1847 Beta-Harp and it rocks. The bends are easy and the comb petrudes out past the coverplate slightly which makes it very comfortable to play. I would recomend one to anyone who loves the 1847,it really is a dream to play. ----------

What about OB's? Has anybody that uses those tried these out? Btw, I just asked Ben and he said that the lead time for stage 3 Beta-harps is just 3 weeks..
So I'm pretty tempted to try it out.

i know i can hit the 6ob on the stage 2 harp which isnt set up for overblows so im guessing the stage 3 should be great for them. I am regretting not getting the stage 3 now that im getting into overblowing more. I'm sure you wont regret getting one:) ----------

I mostly use Ben's customized 1847. in my very humble opinion it is one of the best intrument around, expecially if you think about it in a price/quality perspective.
Ben is very friendly and his delivery time is quite fast.
Think about the fact he's an impressive player who can handle with ease lower keys, OB's and all those fancy tech thingies we are all after. Shortly: he has a great knowledge of the instrument and this knowledge he's able to transpose on his work as a customizer.
I think you won't be disappointed if you try one of his babies... if you play OB go straight for the "stage 3"

Hi manlio, I did purchase the stage 3 from Ben. He was very open about what techniques he uses and applies to the harps, even when I asked very detailed information. So it was pretty easy for me to calculate what is the hourly price that I pay for him on top of the price for OOB harp. (Of course he probably gets the harps cheaper.)
Considering the work that he puts into it and the expected lead time of just 3 weeks, it wasn't hard decision to make. I don't have any harp with steel reeds so it is interesting to get one anyway. Plus I don't have any experience on how to work with steel reeds myself, so I wouldn't be able to do what he does in any case. He has been working with Seydel and development of their reeds so he has wide knowledge of them.
I'll put some review here when I'll get it! (I should get the Buddha harp also in any day so it will be interesting to compare the differences.. :)

I know Ben personally, I studied with him 2 years ago. He's really a great person to deal with and a great customizer and you can go wrong with his 1847s.
I'm still waiting for a Buddha harp, so I'm very interested if you wanna tell us your opinion about both Buddha's and Ben's harmonicas
