Back in 1994 there was an album out called Dog Party by Scott Henderson. Dog Party won equal approval from the fickle guitar virtuoso press, winning every important magazine readers poll for best blues recording. For Guitar Player Mag, Scott beat out Clapton and BB King for the award. There was a guy playing harp on the album called Dan O'Brien that was really a great player (but I never heard of him after that). Scott Henderson is really my favorite all around guitar guy. He has a couple of Blues/Fusion albums that I really like. Here is a YouTube of him improvising at the Baked Potato. Starts out more fusiony but gets more bluesy around the 3 min mark. Somewhat in the Robbin Ford blues feel with Jeff Beckish whammy note shaping as well.
Somebody named Zef has asked me to pass along the following relevant information:
"The harmonica player's name is actually "Pat O'Brien". He plays regularly in Southern California with a band called "The Priests of Love". He also plays guitar. More information can be found on their website: www.priestsoflove.com. ; There are also a few videos on youtube."
Thanks Adam. My bad on the name. Pat O'Brien really plays some exceptional harp on the Scott Henderson Dog Party CD. On the YouTube stuff of just him with his band, he is usually playing guitar and singing...a bit of harp...one would never know that he could play that well from the YouTube stuff.
Hey Joch, check out Tore Down House as well. Pat does a few numbers on that one, he is just an animal on the harp!!! I'm trying to work out positions etc..... :~)
Rubes...I have Tore Down House as well. It's at least as good as Dog Party. Some good singers on that as well. Not much of that on YouTube. Here is a good vid of a guy playing along with Scott (Dolomite). He really does a good job. The song just builds and builds.
Nancy....this is what I found when I googled Levon and the Barnburners.
Levon & the Barn Burners, 2001. From left to right: Levon Helm, drums, Frank Ingrao, bass, Chris O'Leary, vocals & harp, Pat O'Shea, lead guitar, and Amy Helm, vocals.
Thanks... This was at a jam and I may have gotten the personnel crossed... thanks for diggin into it! There where a lot of O'irish in the house! ----------
