How would you call this tune out? I mean, I get how to call out the start, and ending...I get that it is a 12 bar...I get how to set the tempo, etc, but how would you explain the progression? It sounds a bit like a rhumba to me, but is that correct???
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but to me it sounds like in the intro he's playing a shuffle groove (you can play triplets over a shuffle), then when the rest of the band come in it slips into a rhumba. Not really sure about the end.
Ok...I thought it went from shuffle to rhumba too, but wasn't sure. I checked with a drummer and he said the exact same thing. I've woodshedded this tune for a while and want to add it to the set starting next week!
I was never into different tunings, but I've found this one and the "bagpipe" tuning to be a total blast...now to work up a tune that can start with a drone intro... ----------
On the Just Your Fool album there is a full cut of this song with extended solo intro. The tuning actually gives you a Dominant 7 chord in cross and the flat 3 in lieu of the 3 on 7 draw. Very un-Major. ----------
Yeah it's brilliant! Not usually fan of the jazzier stuff, but this guy's really sold it to me. It was all very tasteful and listenable, like you say, very clean, no half-hit squeaky notes and no dodgy phrasing! It's enjoyable just to hear such an adept musical mind just unravel itself :)
