It's not unheard of for track speeds to be altered at mastering. I wouldn't assume that the slowed tracks were necessarily how the songs were "supposed" to be heard, irrespective of whether that's what Johnson actually sounded like in the room. It's a production issue, at the discretion of the record label.

Most old recordings were doctored in some way to meet the technology/practicalities of the day.

You can play them at whatever speed you prefer.
