Gary does indeed outsource the building of his amps - to Mojo Musical Supply in North Carolina. That's where my Super Sonny came from and Gary will tell you that.

Gary hand selects every freaking component that goes into his amps. He is absolutely obsessive about it. He spends months pissing off speaker vendors ordering, listening to and then returning a gazillion speakers before he ever settles on a final combination and orders a bunch of speakers to build a run of amps. Yes, he has someone else assemble them and has never made any assertion to the contrary.

My 2 SJ amps DO have the 1 ohm cathode resistors.

@5F6H - As for "My point is that anyone who owns a fixed bias amp with a bias pot should be able to set their own bias." - I think you give "anyone" way too much credit. The majority of people don't have a clue how to use a digital voltmeter, let alone own one. And there's 500+ volts DC running around a tube amp -lethal, lethal, lethal. I do my own bias adjustments but I know plenty of otherwise bright capable people who choose not to, with good reason.

This thread was much more fun when we were telling Rick how stupid his quiz was.

@ Greg: "@5F6H - As for "My point is that anyone who owns a fixed bias amp with a bias pot should be able to set their own bias." - I think you give "anyone" way too much credit. If you use a bias rite (or similar), as suggested by Gary in his manual (who was supplying them with the amps at one time), you do not need to use a volt meter, nor do you need to touch anything that carries lethal voltage. Yes, a degree of caution is required when carrying out any adjustment with the back off the amp & I can understand discretion being the better part of , er...survival. If you have an externally accessible bias pot then adjustments are quick, safe & easy...tubes fail from time to time, that's life, it's in a player's interests to have some understanding of how things work in case a failure occurs at a gig etc.

"This thread was much more fun when we were telling Rick how stupid his quiz was." Why does every thread have to descend to personal insults & shit throwing? We always seem to end up back in the schoolyard. Rick's manner might not be particularly endearing (he's not exactly alone on that front is he?) but there is no qualification required for expressing an opinion, usually in the course of a thread the facts will be revealed.

@5F6H- "Why does every thread have to descend to personal insults & shit throwing?"

I did not insult Rick or the players, and I don't think those who thought the test was silly insulted him. The fact is, it is a poorly conceived test and the Mission amp deserves a better demo then the ones posted. Personally, I would love to see demos of the Wezo, SJs, Meteors, Harpgears, etc all posted here as long as they are not crap. I don't come to this site to play games but to learn.
