Can anyone recommend a mic builder in the UK. I have a shell that I would like to have built into a mic.
Thanks, Ryan

Keith Parker might still be building mics. I think he can be reached via the NHL. If not maybe one of the Bristol guys will have his contact details.
Other than that I'd recommend sending it to Greg Heumann in the States. His work is top quality.

nasty, it is a turner 22 shell, that is badged as a champion radio a/b stockholm.
I could chop it like rharley's blue diamond, but I think the 22 shells look great the way they are, I am just going to have to work a bit harder to get a good seal/cup.
I just need the installation of element and cable fitting.
There is an element in it, it has one wire soldered to the back of the mic, and another one going out through the bottom.
The element says pearl mikrofon - laboratorium flysta
Type 1T52-Y Nr 6/7797
Made in sweeden
I am going to test the element now.
I want the mic rigged so that the cable comes out of bottom of the mount thing, I hope that that makes sense.

oxharp, i will send you an email in a bit. You should delete you email address or enter it with spaces and an (at) instead of @.
I think bots can troll through the internet and pick up email addresses and send out spam.

The element seems to be dead, I checked it with a multimeter and i am not getting a reading for the ohms.

An open reading doesn't mean the element is dead if it is a crystal. However measuring crystals with older ohm meters (because they pass more current through the device being tested) can actually hurt a crystal element. ---------- /Greg

Thanks Greg, that is good to know.
If I bought if I bought an element the first thing I would have done would thave tested it with the multimeter, and my dad gave me mine so it is qite old.
I think I need to do some reading up about this stuff.

Belfast ,.. Go with a CM as they'll fit right in no problems,..an Greg's right on about blowin the crystal,.the impedance of a crystal is way Hi,NASA could probably tell ya how Hi,.LOL But one shot of juice an their gone,.dead,.kaput.LOL
Best / safest way to test a crystal or ceramic is to hook er up it up to an amp <> CM-CR-Dynamic's OK to use the multimeter no matter how old the meter. ---------- Simply Unique Kustom Mic's By Rharley

Belfast - The Turner 22X is a pretty heavy mic and you might find that if you were using for a gig it would become impractical.
I'd suggest keeping it for a showpiece and getting a Turner CX/BX/BD with a CM inside it instead. These are much more practical mics for gigging and of course still have the super cool retro look.

rharley, what type of gasket would you recommend to fit the cm elements and 22 shell?

Kingley, I know the 22 shell is heavy and hard to hold, but it is just for the house. I don't think I will be gigging anywhere anytime soon.

Belfast,.. RHARLEY's KUSTOM MADE NEOPRENE GASKET is what I would use if I were to build it ,. I developed them to be super tight fitting in all my builds,.but they are a lil' tricky (Tough) to install,.they seal the element like no other!! See pic of Oxharp's element w/ my Kustom gasket <> Because of this I'd have to steer ya to harpmicgaskets <>
