Hey, I was at the music store today and they had his new harp mic that Mr. Peavey has manufactured, at least it's new to the store. Has anyone tried this mic? I plugged it in to a little champ and I thought it felt and sounded pretty decent. I first thought it was a bit heavy but it felt pretty good when I cupped it. Reggie, the salesman at the store was talking of Mr. Peavey and how he just built things that interested him. He told me the story of how he got started and the fact that the banks wouldn't lend him any money. Accept for Citizens Bank which was across the street from his fathers business and they got him going. He also said that Mr. Peavey has maintained his loyalty to that bank ever since even though he doesn't need a bank for anything other that keeping his money safe. Anyway, that was his story, a good story and I'm curious if anyone else has played this mic.

Do you mean the "cherry bomb"?

This is a bullet shaped mic covered in a rubberized coating that gets very dirty in a matter of hours. It has a cheap vocal element inside. It has a mini-XLR connector that will last about 5 gigs. I don't recommend it.

It can be modded into a good mic (see http://bluesharpamps.blogspot.com/2008/04/review-custom-peavey-h-5-cherry-bomb.html) but it isn't worth it....

Yes Greg, that was it. I have never seen a mini XLR before. That really was cheap looking. So, basically it's a shell you could make a mic out of. I'll have to say that the coating made it easy to handle.

The first time I ever saw the mini XLR connector was in 1984, when Astatic stopped making the JT-30 with the screw on connector and the only other connector that would fit in that spot (which is now where the volume control is) was the mini XLR, but the cables would crap out all the time (this was the setup on the early versions of the BLJT-30 until they replaced the connector with the standard XLR and placed it where the threaded slot for mic stand had been from the time the JT30 was made and this is the present day setup). I agree with Greg that this setup is god awful.
