Here's a few videos from YouTube featuring some UK harp players that some of you may never have heard of before.

I put a clip featuring myself playing at a recent jam session in there as well just to show you how good the rest of these guys really are.

Yeah I have a couple of Steve "West" Westons harps. He does some good work. Paul Lamb, Lee Sankey and Tim Corbett all play Steve's harps as do many other British players.

Oh yeah you have some great videos up Russ.

In fact the other day I captured the audio off of Steve Westons jazz bar gig from the YouTube vidoes you put up and made it into an mp3s so I could have it on my iPod.

I'd say Steve is currently the best player on the UK scene for that style by a mile.

Now c'mon Russ get some more videos up! :-)

@Kingley:

And a great showman, too.

My favourite (cetrainly the best in his totally idiosyncratic style!) is Rory Mcleod:

Yeah!

You've only uploaded 173, and most of them are just really good recordings you made of live music I like.

More!

More!

Oh yeah I'm a big Rory Mcleod fan too. I love his stuff with Steve Baker and Henry Heggen in "Have Mercy" 3 harp heaven!

@Kingley:

Have Mercy? Love 'em!

Don't suppose you know where to get the first album? 1977, wasn't it? Long out of print, I assume...

Sorry Will I don't. The only one I have is the 1993 album. You could always try sending Steve Baker an email and see if he knows of a copy anywhere.

Here's one from our band - forgive the slightly perfunctory slideshow in absence of any recent live video (the harp does eventually appear at around 2.50-ish). We will be appearing at the Colne blues festival and Dundee Blues Bonanza this year, if any UK forum members are planning on going..

Rory Mcleod is the the most interesting harp player I know of, full stop. The Boss. Opened up for him on the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow in the nineties, lovely bloke.

Yeah, got the 1993 album. Utterly brilliant. Steve Baker mentions the 1977 album on his website and, if my German's what it used to be, the best he can do is "it surfaces at record fairs / in record shops from time to time." Shame no-one's brought mp3s out.

I'll be playing at Colne with Andy Sharrocks & The Smokin' Jackets. Not sure what time / stage, but maybe catch you there? Poorboy, right? I'll keep an eye out for you...
