I often play this way on my harmonica. They are more meditations than formed songs of any sort. This is how I spent countless hours playing in parking garages, and stairways of buildings. Many a night I had no where to sleep and would fall asleep in those places while playing stuff like this. I added the amount I reverb I had in those places. I thought it might be of some interest to you all. Walter

Do you ever blow into obscurely tuned harps for meditation, Walter?

I enjoyed listening to those. I imagined the sound floating in the wind -- and a child, almost 9, "8 and 3 quarters" he'd say if you asked him, would hear it and wonder what is that wonderful mournful sound. He'd spend the nights sitting there by his window -- waiting for that mournful sound to sound again.

Hi oda: Thanks for listening! I don't play any obscurely tuned harps because I don't have any. If I had one, I sure would. I play stock/unmodified out of the box marine bands and delta frosts. Your comment was right on the money. When I play this way in public places that have lots of natural reverb, I put off a vibe of what you described. It is for the world to hear from a distance. Here are a few more from today. I forget how much I love to just blow the harp free of the rack and 1 man band set ups. I don't know what kind of music this would be called, but it sure makes me feel good! Walter

Hey Walter, these are nice. Did you record them all in your studio with electronic reverb, or did you record any of them out "on location" somewhere with ambient reverb? If the latter, may I ask what you used to record them?

I recorded them in my studio and tried to replicate the natural reverb I get in parking garages and stairways of tall buildings. If you are interested in the chain of gear let me know. Thanks for listening! Walter

Thanks Walter.
That's what impressionists paintings would sound : colors and silences.

saregapadanisa: Thanks! My paintings look like these songs sound. I love silence. IMO most harp players are rapidly forgeting the value of it. Simple sounds, with lots of space, and decades of time behind them are hard to beat IMO. Most of todays players seem to be ripping 24/7. I think this is normal for a beginner. I was blasting notes every which way when I started out, but as I got more time behind me, the space has become much more important than showing I can rip all night long. I enjoy ripping too, but their needs to be a counterbalance to it for either to mean anything. Walter
