I was asked to post this for my son's (Joshua) local harmonica club.

This exciting new harmonica event is sponsored by the Garden State Harmonica Club in New Jersey and will take place this Saturday afternoon on May 15th. The featured performers include harmonica favorites Rob Paparozzi, Phil Caltabellotta and Enrico Granafei among several others. While there, get a preview of the upcoming Garden State Harmonica Club's 2010 festival coming up in November.

There will also be an open mic at the end. The club is directly in front of the Montclair train station if you want to take the train from NY ir NJ. The cost is very reasonable. More details below:

Frank Grova
His interest in music began at an early age, long before his teenage years. His mother wanted him to play the piano however, circumstances beyond their control prevented that from happening. He purchased his first harmonica (a Marine Band) when he was twelve years old. He soon discovered the limitations of the diatonic format and graduated to a ten hold chromatic. Shortly thereafter, he heard the Harmonicats and was hooked. For him, playing the harmonica has been a blast He has played professionally and enjoyed the company of many talented harmonica players. He owes a debt of gratitude to this little instrument, simply because it has added a dimension to his life that he otherwise might never have enjoyed. He has played with the Melody Men (with Ralph Mindo and Tom Scerbo), with Richie Miller and currently with the new Melody Men (with Phil Caltabellota and Tom Scerbo).

Enrico Granafei
Harmonica virtuoso, classical guitarist, singer, songwriter, arranger, composer Enrico Granafei has a long history of musical experience which encompasses both classical music and jazz. Enrico, after earning a degree in classical guitar from the Conservatory of l’Aquila in Italy, Enrico started to broaden his horizons by discovering jazz through the harmonica. His love for jazz led him to New York City, the world capital of jazz. In 1992 Enrico earned a masters degree in jazz performance from the Manhattan School of Music where he was the only student of Toots Thielemans. During the time that he has resided in the New York area, he has performed extensively on the chromatic harmonica in the United States and continued to be a featured musician in major European festivals and jazz clubs. He has recorded with Eddie Gomez, Eliot Zigmund. Marc Johnson, Adam Nussbaum,Ted Curson, Nnena Freelon (Concord Records) and many others. Enrico’s latest accomplishment is his work on hands-free-chromatic harmonica. The revolutionary instrument invented by Vern Smith allows him to play chromatic harmonica and guitar at the same time. Enrico has also been the owner and musical director of the prestigious Trumpets Jazz Club in Montclair, New Jersey (USA), the most important jazz venue in the state, since 1999.

Rob Paparozzi Harmonica & Vocals (Front man)
New Jersey-based front man, singer, & harmonica player Rob Paparozzi has been a blues performer since 1967. But Rob is far from being strictly a blues musician. In fact, he's at home playing a wide range of music, ranging from rock to blues to jazz to pop. This versatility is reflected in the long and remarkably diverse list of major artists Rob has worked with. Rob had been touring the world with the “Original Blues Brothers Band”, featuring guitar legend Steve Cropper and special guest Eddie Floyd 2000-2007. Most recently, in “Blood Sweat and Tears” as Front Man-Lead Vocalist and Harmonica Player (replacing singer David Clayton Thomas) in 2004-to present. Rob’s own band The Hudson River Rats features Ed Alstrom, John Korba, Chris Eminizer, Bernard Purdie, George Naha and Bailey Gee.

Charles "Daddy T" Toker
Charlie taught himself to play the chromatic harmonica at age 16 and formed the Harmonia Reeds Duo. They performed on cruise ships, hotels in the U.S.A. and Canada, and the Arthur Godfrey T.V. Show. During his early twenties, Charlie was lead chromatic with the Harmonica Rogues. His career resumed after a 35 year hiatus, joining with the Harmonica Runners of the Garden State Harmonica Club. For the past 5 years, he has performed on harmonica and keyboard with the 17 North Band. Band members are: Barry Glick (accordion), Mike Muray (trombone), Frank Alomare (guitar), Jeremiah Healy (bass) and Herb Barnett (drums).

Phil Caltabellotta
The lead harmonica player for The HARPbeats, was born and raised in New Jersey and now lives in New York. He first touched the harmonica at 7 years old and toyed with it for years. At 14, he was bitten by the proverbial harmonica bug and listened to all of the harmonica records that he could find! As time went on, he shared the stage with the fabulous Harmonikings, The Electra 111 Trio, The Yellow Pine Trio, Phil 'n The G.A.P., The Society Boys, The Melody Men where he plays the chord harmonica and will be a judge at the Yellow Pine Harmonica Festival in Idaho this August. He is also into some serious jazz harmonica playing for the last few years. Phil has been a member of the Garden State Harmonica Club for 32 years. Phil loves jamming with his fellow harmonica players and is a Suzuki Harmonica endorsee.
