Adam that was a really ripping sound you used to get with the maxi mouse. Why did you stop using them and were there any particular problems you had with them?

Is that the same kind of battery powered amp that was popular in the 80's? I used 2 when I played on the streets of brussels - one for vocals/harp and one for guitar. They were great amps- plenty loud, long battery life, easy to carry, and durable as heck. My street partner TT Fingers and I did a big festival in Belgium with mouse amps. They mic'd them and it put off a huge sound through the mains- that is what Bo Diddly said. He headlined and we saw him walking in front of the stage looking at our amps and when we got off he wanted to check them out. We had a full band - drums, bass, and horns. Walter ---------- walter tore's spontobeat - a real one man band and over 1 million spontaneously created songs and growing. I record about 300 full length cds a year. " No one can control anyone, but anyone can let someone control them" 2,000 of my songs

I have a regular Mouse, not a Maxi-Mouse. Actually, I have two. One of them--the good one--has a kind of extra cone-piece, a raised ridge about 3/4" high coming off the cone. It's almost like a tweeter; it clearly adds an extra bit of resonance-buzz when you crank the amp up.
I like the amp, but I prefer my Kay 305 with its tube sound. Still, my Mouse is a great street amp

The only problem with them is that eventually the batteries wear out and you have to take the amp apart and put two new batteries in. That requires soldering.

"a raised ridge about 3/4" high coming off the cone"
I think you may be describing a "whizzer cone" common on organ speakers of the 60's and 70's. JD

I had regular mouses too. The batteries never went dead while I owned them (about 2 years). Yes, I think it's a whizzer cone. That phrase may even have appeared somewhere in the original paperwork.

Thanks Adam, et al. Aye, those eighties small solid state amps really gave out a real Papa Lightfoot roar. I did some recording today with one and as you unbend into a big fat chord it sounds like hell, in a good way.
