Been listening to country music for a few days (on the radio), I hear a little harp now and then. Which modern country bands make heavy use of harmonica? I'm quite ignorant of the genre.

I'm ignorant of this genre but i did come across a short clip on Hyper Harp's website of him playing with Kalli Palmer and it sounds like great modern country music. I have had a quick look around her myspace pages and can't find any more info. Any more information would be appreciated.

Not sure of your definition of modern. I'm a little behind the times but here's a few:

Clint Black. Used to play LOs, don't know if he still does.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Jimmy Fadden plays drums and Harp, usually both at the same time with the harp in a rack.

Terry McMillan. Studio musician for lots of country artists, also solo (recently passed).

Mickey Raphael. Mostly plays with Willie Nelson.

I know Mickey Raphael has been with Willie Nelson for over 35 years but I have always thought he was pretty "modern".Way ahead of his time back in the 70's.

And, a hell of a nice guy as well.

He has quite a few friends in the offshore oil business. Of which, I am proud to say, I am one.

Good to see Willie. One of the great guys to work for in the business. In the late 70's Willie had the actor, Slim Pickens, get up on stage a play a little harp at a show at Lake Tahoe. Good times.
