It sounds like a blow off will take place Tuesday the 17th at Famous Dave's at 8pm, the night before the start of SPAH. Jason will not be in attendance, but this will be a can't miss. The artists being lined up go from traditional to modern, blues to rock to jazz, and full band to solo stuff.
I *think* there will be quite a bit of non-SPAH people in attendance too. I get the feeling that locally this will be promoted pretty well.
The venue is perfect with a huge stage and awesome sound. The Famous Dave's in Calhoun Square hosts national blues acts all the time and is thrilled to be a part of this.
More details to come as to who is playing, etc!

Sounds like a great time. I had planned on attending but had to pick between SPAH and Hill Country Harmonica. Just signed up for HCH. ---------- Rob

That location is a bit of a haul from the Mall but it should be a great venue. Keep the updates coming....

Options for travel are being discussed.
Whiskey Junction would have been easy to get too via Light Rail, but the stage and sound aren't as solid due to the layout of the venue. From an audience standpoint, there is better seating at FD's too.
Famous Dave's will draw well from a non-SPAH standpoint and they are really dedicated to backing these sorts of events in numerous ways. Their resources are just way ahead of other "blues" places now...not that the blowout will be all blues or that FD's does only blues.
The Blues Saloon is an awesome club, they don't have food and are in St. Paul. :(

I grew up a few blocks away from the Blues Saloon....it's not in a good neighborhood now. We moved from there because of it and it's still really run down. Whiskey Junction is a biker bar. I've been in the Caboose bar right next door to see Buddy Guy but never have been inside Whiskey Junction. Famous Dave's will be good. It's at an in between neighborhood.....to the East a few blocks and you're in a bad neighborhood and to the West, the richer yuppy land houses.

There was a HUGE spread about the Blues Saloon in last Sunday's paper. The size, sound, etc is pretty sweet. We played there a few weeks ago. You're right about the neighborhood, but they are the only club besides Dave's with national blues acts (which would probably attract harp fans).
But yeah, Dave's is a good inbetween on a lot of levels. The Cabooze is way bigger than the Junction. We played the junction two weeks after the Blues Saloon. It was packed, but the club is shaped like a huge U with the bar in the middle and the stage on the bottom of the U facing the main entrance. Even though it would be "roomy" enough, it is easier to listen than watch there.
The sound guy at Dave's also has a lot of experience miking harp players. ;) Best front of house sound I'd ever had. ----------
