Hi Bro's i had this old amp i wanted to convert into a extension cab for some fun and fit a 10" speaker in it a friend gave me a 10" plessy i fitted and i didn't like it,
i was shopping for another 10" in Ebayland and came across 4 x 5&1/4" GE Alnico's 4 ohms mid range speakers,so i made the bid,i was only going to use 2 but they all fitted in the box so why not, there wire for 4ohms,
so now i like the sound of the Quads more than the single weber in the GH-2, not for loudness 1st ok the tone is much different, but the voice comeing from 4 speakers rather than 1 speaker i find is a more even mix, sort of like you have one loud voice coming from 1 speaker, and 4 voices talking at a normal leval but with the same projection giveing a much warmer richer tone,
so why aren't the harp amp builders useing small combos of quads in stead of 2x8's or 2x10" or single combo's,in there mid range Amps.
so at the moment I'm Looking at getting some 6" speakers to build another Quad for the HG-2 most likely Webers but i know Jenson have the MODS,is there any other 6" Speakers i can look at Bro's,
Ps isn't it cute yes i will get a sound demo soon:)

For big manufacturers, the reason is economics. For boutique manufactures, the reason is probably market demand.
People buying boutique amps want a balance of good tone and volume. People have built amps with arrays of small speakers. Sonny Jr used 4x8 in his SJ1 amp. The volume wasn't there. He used 6x8 in his SJ2 amp. The volume was better, but I've heard those amps get crushed by a loud band, too.
i think joe nailed it. i would wager that 4 small speakers are more expensive than i large. and with boutique amps the price is already high due to labor/material costs and supply/demand.
now gimme a crash course on extension cabs, please. do you just plug it into the line out on the hg2. i assume you still need power to it, right? are there any knobs to tweak? are extension cabs inexpensive? and, lastly, any recommendations?
Nasty, I would be inclined to go with te Weber Signature series 6" speakers over the Jensen Mod. The Webers are $45 for Alnico or $30 for Ceramic. Maybe mix them up 2 and 2. I have always been very happy with the Weber speaker. It is my first choice in sound. I have had a couple of MOD speakers in the past and am not impressed with them. As we all know speaker choice is very subjective and it depends on your ear and what you like.
I think it is a good question. The surface area of 4 5.25's is very close to that of a single 10" - and I'll bet they sound great. They are slightly less efficient than a single speaker though, and as Joe points out the single speaker is much cheaper. But as a "boutique" amp I like the idea of 4x5.25's ---------- /Greg
Unless the amp is an acoustic instrument amp, anything smaller than a 10" speaker is likely to sound raspy or crunchy more readily. For those who like that sort of sound for harp, that's great. Personally, I prefer a somewhat cleaner set up, so i don't like playing through anything smaller than 10's. But, YMMV.
I got a few things wrong I'm useing a CR Black Back in JT Shell the song i say shouldn't be done on Harp i meant shouldn't be done Amplifyed, no effects pedals are used,
Bro H has got it right nice an raspy by the ways it sounds great via my Legacy 5 watt epliclone VJ,,
