I'm going to be in New Orleans this weekend for Jazzfest and I noticed that Johnny Sansone is putting on his eighth annual harp blowout at Chicky Wah Wah. My wife and I may end up down there, although it's not 100% certain. But we're also planning on seeing J'Monque D and Johnny at Jazzfest.

Todd & others: are you planning on attending either event?

Yes, I will certainly try to go Thursday. He usually calls this the Brotherhood of Iron show, and it includes himself, Steve 'Harpo' Gelder, Thomas Walker and a few others from around the area. I missed it last year(I've actually never seen it, and last year was the first time I was aware it existed!)for one reason or another, but I need to be at this one. J'Monque' D plays around town fairly often, and Thomas Walker plays guitar for him, since J' has harp duties. Thomas is a protege of Johnny Sansone(as is another notable player now located in Austin, Greg Izor)and posseses the deepest tone of anyone I've ever heard.

Adam, when are you going to Jazz Fest? The weather is supposed to turn bad for the weekend on Friday, so I might decide to go on Thursday, since I ride my motorcycle down there. Normally, I can find a pretty good place to park. Sunpie Barnes is playing at 2:15. He always is always at the Harp Blowout thing and is real cool. Also Popper is on at 5:50. Then on the Chickie Wah Wah. and after that to Frenchman Street There is always something good happening there. I personally like Cafe Negril.

J Monque' D is great, and very entertaining, and Johnny is as well, but I see both of them all the time, and I have never seen Popper.

If I miss you, I will see you in the Hill Country. If you need anything while you are here, just let me know.

If you are coming for sure, I will contact let the club know, and you can meet a bunch of players if you would like, though a bunch of them will be at Johnny's show.

Todd, I say that you are Popperesque, which actually is a good thing in my mind.

Harvey:

My wife and I will be in New Orleans around 3, but we'll chill at the hotel for a while and won't get to Jazzfest that day. I think it's pretty likely we'll come to Johnny's thing. I let him know that I would be happy to play a short solo set for free, if he could use me, but he hasn't replied and that's fine: Who wants to work for free anyway? I'd rather relax with a drink & my wife, and meet a few new people.

Please email me your cell # (asgussow@aol.com) and I'll give you a call some time later afternoon or early evening Thursday, after we're in town. Maybe we can rendez vous at the club. I've seen Popper and he's worth seeing, but a little of what he does goes a long way, for me.

Just got word from Harvey that none other than Adam Gussow will be joining the fun onstage tonight as part of the show, so anyone in striking range of New Orleans needs to come on down to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal Street. Show starts at nine, and it should be a blast.
