Jonny Sansone mailed the following to our club president:

Harmonica Summit DVD filming planned! Amanda Taylor (AKA Kim Wilson's wife) is producing a spectalar gathering of some of her favorite harmonica players. Included in this lineup are James Cotton, Lazy Lester, Kim Wilson, Paul Oscher, Bharath Rajakumar, Johnny Sansome, Rick Estrin, Jerry Portnoy, Dave Waldmen, Bob Corritore, RJ Miischo, Steve Marriner, Billy Fynn, Vincent Bury and a few surpise guests. The excellent backing band for this event consists of Larry Taylor, Richard Innes, Billy Flynn, and Barrelhouse Chuck. The event will happen on Friday and Saturday, October 1st and 2nd at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. It will be filmed and recorded with Clarke Ribsby at the technical helm, and will be released in 2011 on CD and DVD on MC Records. This is a once in a lifetime gathering of some of the greatest living players of the blues harmonica traditions. There is a multi generational "fathers and sons" subtheme running through this event with ages 22 through 76 represented. There be limited tickets sold. A hotel deal will be made available and we expect ticket to go on sale via Ticketmaster in 2 to 3 weeks. More information forthcoming.

oh I see, I need to prove it to you TMF714? OK.

If you are truly serious about harmonica then you would know who orchestrated the first Harmonica Summit. Keep digging.

Good luck with the infringement on the title name.

The guy in the backing band wouldn't be Larry "The Mole" Taylor from the original Canned Heat??

harpdude61, it may very well be, from what I gather, since he's supposely sought after in the blues circles as a solid upright and electric bass player.

that's him and he's one of the best blues bass players around. Good blues bass players and drummers are ten million times harder to find that great heap players or guitar players. Richard Innes is also one of the best blues drummers around. That's also Hollywood Fats' old rhythm section. If you're into a more traditional blues sound, all of those guys being used as a backup band are top notch players who know it cold.

What a great line up. Considering where the SPAH thing is this year and its proximity to other attractions, Pheonix mught be a better gig?

Oh and, the name is indeed registered to someone in Minnesota, although I didn't feel like paying the $4.00 to find out who, however the registration expires in May or August of this year.

Here's the info link if you'd care to verify it. cut and paste it.

tmf714, you need to be a bit more trusting.

Thanks X-harp.

Yeah I know it's scheduled to expire. I received a notice about two weeks ago and will renew it next week.

I'm going to call Bob Corritore and talk to him about putting on another Summit in the way that I did it. He already has all the blues greats coming so I'll see what I can do about getting the jazz greats out too.

I want to have a teaching component and giveaways like I did 10 years ago. We had serious prizes just for coming to the event. Filisko Harps, two 4x10 Holland Amps (they were consider THE harp amp at the time. vintage bullet mic giveaways.

I didn't have a raffle, I had names of all the participants in a bucket and we drew names as a reward for coming to the event.

The last one, I got really sick on the last day and everyone wanted to put me in the hospital. I had about 3 hours of sleep over the entire week.

X-harp,
Trust has nothing to do with it. It's a matter of who the "name" belongs to and if there may be legal implications.
After 4 years of criminal justice,and 20 years of service with the legal system,I know whom to trust,and who not to.

All that time in the justice system may tend to make you more suspicious then trusting I would think.

I'm sure you've heard all the sorry tales only to find out the truth is actually a long way off.

nothing derogatory meant by my comment.

Buddha: I'm thinking that at the very least, I should use the occasion of this Oct 1-2 event to come out to Phoenix and you and I--with perhaps some third player--should put on an afternoon clinic, or perhaps an all-day clinic. Not in competition with the other event, at all, but rather as a supplement to take advantage of the presence of the influx of harmonica fans in the area.

I'd like to offer a clinic on "grooves for the blues harmonica player" and "an introduction to overblowing for the traditional blues player." You could attack the more progressive end.

What do you think?

@toddlgreene:

What a marvellous show, and wonderful that it's being filmed! I'm excited!

@kudzurunner:

/I'd like to offer a clinic on "grooves for the blues harmonica player"/

Coincidentally, I'll be running a workshop at the NHL Spring Festival here in the UK with pretty much the same title...

no of course not, I'm saving it for you. I might even wash Buckweed's blood out of it if I'm in the mood.

Nah, don't clean it-I always wanted a blood brother. When I break out in a nervous sweat, it'll make gravy like Gravy Train. I'll be delicious.
