Hi, newbie here. I have two vintage Astatic T-30 mics, both with ceramic cartridges and both with the same 2501 type connectors. http://www.jt30.com/jt30page/connectors.html The connectors are the problem. The stress relief spring that comes with the connector allows a certain size of cable, which is slightly smaller than the hole in the connector. Once soldered to the connector and screwed in place with the stress relief spring, there is still some slight play no matter what I have tried. After a couple of months of playing, I usually end up having to resolder the cable to the connector. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, did you find a solution? Or is it just the nature of the beast?
Thanks in advance!

is it possible to build up the cable with some tape or some tubing?

Someone mentioned on another thread about using heat shrink around the spring and the cable (in relation to amphenol single pole connectors). That together with eharp's tape idea should do it.

The center (where the center conductor is soldered) should be slightly higher than the base. If it isn't, it is damaged from years of over-tightening. Please see http://www.blowsmeaway.com/faq.html and scroll down to the "physical" section. ---------- /Greg

@eharp--> (and also @MrVerylongusername): I thought of that as well. Shrink tubing over the end of the stress relief that fits in the 2501 connector. The stress relief barely fits over the cable. Used a bit of veggie oil to help shove the thang on there, so I am limited in what I can do with the cable. Perhaps that is the answer, shrink tube the end of the stress relief that fits into the connector to further limit the play of the cable. Thanks!
@Greg - > Great web site! Good, solid information. Never realized that the Switchcraft volume control I use was so valuable.
One of the T-30's I bought off eBay. It was soldered poorly (big old mound of solder that limited how far I could fasten the connector). Resoldered it to be sure. I tinned the wire before soldering it as well to stiffen it up a bit. Even the slightest movement is dangerous to the solder joint though. Anyhow, great information and thanks to all for the quick responses!
