I love the Manji but I find the smoothness of a full coverplate like the Promaster or Hammond to feel so much better. The Shorter cover plates of the manji and Sp20 design irritates the corners of my mouth when playing. MAybe it is just the square corners verses the rounder corners of the harp?

Do you find this to be true of the cut down sized cover plates and sqaure corners? Can you just round them off easily?

Edit: Not going to delete the above but I think it has more to do with the corners then the coverplate....

Thanks 528hemi

i play GM's now and then, and I love my promaster, in fact, playing the promaster has made me learn a new appreciation for those full cover plates. and i get what youre saying, im sure its the uniform feel all the way down that i like. im with u hemi.

yeah...it kinda jabs the corner of your mouth when doing alot of practicing. Maybe I am just a wimp LOL

All in all I still love the manji, SP20 and the most comfortable harp I ever played but cant overblow on it because of the squeel the Hammond. Otehr then that I love the Hammonds feel...and it plays better then my promaster even though they suppose to be the same. shrug...

you can smooth off the corners with a file, i filed them on my LOs (probably the worst corners ever made). try it, it's well worth the time...

Wow--all these players with champagne taste in harps. My favorite, most comfortable harp is a Big River--with a custom comb and some reed work.

My next most favorite is an MB--same modifications. I like the sound of the MB better, but the BR is the most comfortable in my mouth.

I'm scared to try anything else--I can't afford to replace all those goddamn Hohners!

Contact Daron Stinton of Suzuki. He has some extra BluesMaster,Promaster cover plates which fit on the Manji.

Cover lengths don't bother me much. Truly though I am changing my thoughts on the Marine Band since getting a Crossover. Unsurpassed for the great crunchy sound & it's only the comfort of the Crossover that has won me over.

I have a Manji & its really a great harp loud and punchy. The choice for me in future is out of Crossover or Manji. I prefer the smaller size of the Crossover but it is 50% more expensive than a Manji.

I think cover lengths ie shorter covers can pose problems for players with facial hair especially Lee Oskars.

Since i been customizing my own MB harps ...I saw that Jason Ricci rounded his corners almost round ..i started doing it ...I told him that when i showed him one of my harps on the cruise ...That is the first step i do when making my harps ...ever since i been doing that my corners of my mouth dont get rasberries ...takes a few minutes to get comfortable on it ...but what a diffrence ...check out my website for a pic .....www.deakharp.com...
