Loaned one from a buddy of mine. Tried it at practice and didn't get it. The volume seemed to cut way down unless I had it at 10. The actual compression part I get, but I would want the volume to match my amp, correct?

I saw Jason Ricci mention running the volume on 5 as that was something along the lines of no impact, but when I did that, it cut my volume by way more than half.

I thought the compression didn't add anything I liked, but I want to make sure I did it correctly before I give it back next week.

OPTO STOMP is a SOFT KNEE compressor, which, as a practical matter, means it's very subtle. it does smooth out the signal, though. Make sure the -15 db pad is OFF.

The higher the compression setting on the OPTO STOMP, the more you will need to boost the volume to compensate. Be sure to run it FIRST in chain. Don't set it at a certain level just because JR or someone else does. Use your ears for what sounds good with YOUR rig.

Try a somewhat lower compression setting and you won't need to boost the volume control so drastically. This is a pedal that usually stays on all the time and should be put FIRST IN CHAIN, right after any wireless receiver you may be using. The compression and volume settings are symbiotic on this pedal. You've got to fool with them to find the right "mix."

I tried wireless, AFB+, Opto Stomp, Micro Pog, BBE Two Timer....this morning I had it on volume to almost 9 and contour just under 3. I will monkey with it more, but I am not sure what to make of it.

I was hoping for the sound of a little more "drive" at lower volumes - the actual effect of compressing I am sure is harder to actually hear when using the pedal.

Thanks.

Running the AFB+ before the compressor may be affecting the signal being fed to the compressor to an extent that the compressor is not performing its usual function. The ADB+ is not a compressor, but it does affect the signal in a way that what is being fed to the compressor from the AFB+ is not the same sort of signal as the compressor usually compresses.
