Yes, this is a stop time but I wouldn't call it a stop time song. I would rather use that term for Hoochie Coochie Man for example where the chorus starts with 8 stop times in a row ... at least the original Chess Records recording. Later versions had the drums going through the stops.
BTW ... is it just me or does that guy look like Jason Ricci (sp?) in this pic?

This is indeed stop time, however I think many people don't know the term. Where I come, that 3-beat rest in the last measure is just called a break. Listen to Paul DeLay's "Stop your Groaning" - same break. Usually the next verse's vocal or the soloist fills the space while everyone else lays out.
And yes, he DOES look a little like Jason. ---------- /Greg
Yea I don't think I've ever heard the term stop time before. I would have in this situation just said that it was a pick up...for what ever reason the fact that everything else drops out didn't occur to me as something to be identified until now haha. In fact we did a blues in my band that used this stop time technique for a verse but I didn't know it was called anything. Learn something new every day!

I've heard the term being used for decades. There are tons of tunes, not just blues, that uses stop time. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
